Coroner H U Kinder was called to Morrisville one day this week to , hold an inquest over the body of I John Pressley, colored, but upon his arrival found an inquest unnecessary, owing to the fact that the negro's death was due to heart failure. ('apt John A Kelley and Mrs F W Fairey were called to Asheville, N C.last week on account of the illness and death of Miss Mary Boyd, a sister of Mrs Kelley. They, with the other relatives present, accompanied the remains to Darlington, the former home of the deceased, where the interment took place. Capt Kelley and Mrs Fairev returned home Monday, after the funeral. Miss Boyd had visited Kingstree quite often and her passing brings sadness to the hearts of her many friends here. Bishop Guerry visited Lake City Monday evening, where Rev H D Bull has established a promising mission. The Presbyterian church had been kindly loaned for the occasion, and a large congregation was edified by the Bishop's magnificent sermon. Rt Rev W A Guerry, Bishop of South Carolina, made his annual visitation to Kingstree Tuesday. Services were held in the Methodist church, the Episcopal church being i damaged by fire, as elsewhere nar' rated. The Bishop was assisted in i the services by Rev H D Bull, Rev | D A Phillips, pastor of the church, I reading the Scripture lesson. Bishop j Guerry preached a sermon of rare excellence and confirmed two candi! dates. Old Fashioned Spelling Bee. On Friday night, March 19, the Civic league will conduct an old fashioned spelling bee in the Thomas Opera house at 7:00 o'clock. Two matches will be held, one for the ; grown-ups and one for the children. Mr Hugh McCutchen will act as teacher for adults and Messrs VV T Wilkins and P N Becton will choose sides from the audience. Mr Edward Hurt will act as teacher for the young people and two high school boys will choose sides. The Ringstree Drug Co and Jacobs & Scott will each give a box of candy to the winners. See full details later. It. L D RODGERS. Mr. James S. McClary Dead. Mr James S McClary died at Morrisville Saturday, aged 42 years. Death was due to a complication of diseases. The deceased was a man of high character and was deservedly held in esteem by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, three sons and three daughters and a host of friends to mourn his departure. The remains were interred in Williamsburg cemetery Sunday afternoon, Rev P S McChesney officiating. The pall-bearers were: Messrs Harold U Kinder, W H Carr. P S Courtney and R S Burrows.
