Court of Common Pleas. 1
The court of Common Pleas convened
here Monday, with Judge I W
Bowman presiding. There were a
number of visiting attorneys present,
viz: L D Jennings, Sumter; r'
H Arrowsmith, Lake City; F L Wilcox,
J D Gilland, Florence; L E
Wood, Sumter; N N Newell, John
aonville, and J H Clifton, Sumter.
The docket was a short one, there
being only two jury cases, those of
J D Gilland, Esq, against Mr T W
Boyle, as agent of the Mallard Lumpany,
in a suit to recover a balance
of fee amounting to $750.00 for the
transaction of a $60,000 deal in timber
lnnds m the vear 1909. It seems
that this transaction was to net the
complainant about $1,500.00, of
which the defendant paid $700.00.
As to the balance the dispute arose
and Mr Gilland brought suit. The
jury, after hearing the evidence in
the case, and very able arguments
by LeRoy Lee, for the defendant,
and F L Willcox, for the plaintiff,
brought in a verdict for the defendant,
Mr T W Boyle.
In the case of J M Sturgeon
against David Coker.suit for $235.00,
a mistrial was declared.
Several other cases of minor im\
portance were presented to the court'
and ruled upon without the consideration
of a jury.
' I
Court adjourned sine die at 9
o'clock p. m. Tuesday. |
SEEK BAIL FOR TRIPPETT.
Attorneys to Appear Before
Judge Bowman at Klngstree.
Sumter, March 8:?The only new
phase of the Trippett-Jones shooting
affair today was the departure
by automobile of LD Jennings, Esq,
J H Clifton, Esq, B C Trippett, the
prisoner, and Deputy Sheriff Epperson
this afternoon for Kings tree,
where an effort will be made to have
SolicitorStoll consent to a hearing for
bail without waiting the three days,
which he has a right to demand.
Judge Bowman is now holding court
at Kingstree, and if Solicitor Stoll
consents to the hearing, it will be
held in chambers there. J H Clifton
was retained as counsel for the
accused man at once yesterday on
his arrival from Washington. Trippett
was arrested on a warrant from
the Coroner immediately after the
close of the inquest Saturday night
and has been held from that time at
the residence of Mr J C Huger,
where he is guarded by the deputy
Sheriff.
The services over the remains of
W S Jones, Jr, were held at the
residence of his parents yesterday
afternoon and the body was interred
at the Sumter cemetery. x

COLDS
An up-to-date remedy for
colds. That is what Peruna
is. In successful use over
50 years.
Colds are caught In many i
ways: Illy ventilated rooms;
rooms that have direct draughts;
crowded rooms: damD houses:
stuffy school rooms; offices illy
heated.
A dose of Peruna at the right
time, at the first symptom of
cold, before the bones begin to
ache, before the sore throat
manifests itself, or the cough, or
the discharge from the nose, just
a dose or two of Peruna before
these symptoms begin is generally
sufficient. But after the cold
is once established with the
above symptoms prominent, a
bottle of Peruna, or maybe two,
will be necessary.
"For several years I have been
troubled with colds at each change
of season. I took Peruna and have
not been troubled with the slightest
cold this entire season." Mr. Harry
Fisher, 1928 Mosher St., Baltimore,
Md.
"I give the children Peruna If they
have a cold, and It always relieves K:
them." Mrs. I. D. Hayes, 1937 Druid
Hill Ave., Baltimore, Md.
"When I feel a cold coming on I
take a little Peruna, and it does me
good." Mr. Charles S. Many, 12 Water
St.. Osslning, N. Y.
"No family should ever be without
Peruna. for It is an unfailing cure
for colds." Mrs. M- F. Jones, Burning

The farmer gets more out of the
.fair than anyone else. The fair to a
city man is an entertainment; to a
farmer it is education. Let us take a
stroll through the fair grounds and
linger a moment at a few of the points
iof greatest interest. We will first
visit the mechanical department and
hold communion with the world's
greatest thinkers.
You are now attending a congress of
the mental giants in mechanical science
ol all ages. They are addressing
you in tongues of iron and steel and
in language mute and powerful tell an
eloquent story of the world's progress.
The inventive geniuses are the most
valuable farm hands we have and
they perform an enduring service to
mankind. We can all help others for
, a brief period while we live, but it
takes a master mind to tower into the __
realm of science and light a torch of ~~
progress that will illuminate the pathway
of civilization for future generations.
The men who gave us the
sickle, the binder, the cotton gin and
hundreds of other valuable inventions
work in every field on earth and will .
continue their labors as long as time. in
Their bright intellects have conquered sh
death and they will live and serve m
| mankind on and on forever, without
money and without price. They have ?*
shown us how grand and noble it is m
to work for others; they have also rj(
taught us lessons in economy and efficiency,
how to make one hour do the
work of two or more; have length- pi
ened our lives, multiplied? our ju
opportunities and taken toil off the
back of humanity. "i
They are the most praftical men of
the world ever produced. Their in- gg
mentions have stood the acid test of
futility and efficiency. Like all useful
men, they do not seek publicity, yet dr
