Mr. J. A. Bradham Dead.
Greelyville, February 8:?Mr Julius
A Bradham, a well known Confederate
veteran, passed quietly
away Friday, January 29, 1915, at
his home 5 miles north of Greelyville.
He celebrated his 78th birth-1
day last October. He served throughout
the Civil war, being wounded in
several places, one of which wounds
caused his right arm to be amputated.
He was twice married and
his two wives were sisters, the first
being Miss Martha Chandler and the
second Miss F A Chandler, the latter
of whom survives him.
The deceased was a member of
Greelyville Baptist church, with
which he united many years ago.
Mr Bradham was a good man,
kind-hearted and peace-loving and
friendly to all.and,withal, a substantial
citizen of the community in
which he lived.
He was ill six weeks, being stricken
with nephritis, which seemed to
gain a stronger hold on him each
day, until the Master called him
home.
He was laid to rest Sunday, January
31, at 12:30 p. m. in Kingstree
Baptist cemetery. Rev W E Hurt
conducted the funeral ceremony.
He leaves to mourn his loss seven
children, twenty-three grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
Thus another faithful Confederate
veteran has answered the call of
"taps". One Who Lovep Him.

And at times the yaller novels and some
other trash?don't you?
But when I want some other readin'
that'll brush away a frown,

The outer trenches guarding,
When the heated guns of the camps
allied
Grew weary of bombarding.
The dark Redan, in silent scoff.
Lay, grim and threatening, under;
And the tawny mound of the Malakoff
No longer belched its thunder.
There was a pause. A guardsman said,
"We storm the forts to-morrow;
king while we may,?another day
Shall bring enough of sorrow."
They lay along the battery's side,
Below the smoking cannon,
Brave hearts, from Severn and from
Clyde
And from the banks of Shannon.
They sang of love, and not of fame;
Forgot was Britain's glory:
Each heart recalled a different name,
But all sang "Annie Laurie."
Voice after voice caught up the song,
Until its tender passion
Rose like an anthem, rich and
strong. ?
Their battle-eve confession.
Dear girl.her name he dared not
speak;
But as the song grew louder,
Something upon the soldier's cheek
Washed off the stains of powder.
Beyond the darkening ocean burned
The bloody sunset's embers,
While the Crimean valleys learned
How English love remembers.
And once again a fire of hell
Rained on the Russian quarters,
With scream of shot, and bust of
shell,
And bellowing of the mortars!
And Irish Nora's eyes are dim
For a singer, dumb and gory;
And English Mary mourns for him
Who sang of Annie Laurie.
Sleep, soldiers! still in honored rest
Your truth and valor wearing:
The bravest are the tenderest,?
