Too Cold for Farm Work?Burial
of Mr. McCants.
Benson, February 9:?Very little
farm work was done before Christmas
and none in this section during
the month of January on account of
the prevailing rainy and cloudy days,
but with a few more balmy days
with radiant and resplendent sun-j
light giving more warmth to the i
damp, cold earth, the farmers will be
found ploughing, harrowing, grubb.ng,
ditching and generally preparing
the soil for the growing of another
crop, hoping for a bountifulj.
yield at the harvest season.
It is well that the belligerent
powers of the Old World are still
fighting at the present, for it impresses
us with a safe and sound
thought to plant less cotton, more
grain, a medium tobacco crop and
to use a very limited quantity of
fertilizers. Again raise the cry of
the "one-gallus" boys of the 90's:
"More hog and hominy," and the
country will experience prosperity.
Miss Ossie Epps of Kingstree visited
in this section Sunday for the
purpose of organizing a Ladies' Missionary
society. The meeting was
held at 3 p. m.and they succeeded in
organizing with a few faithful members.
The society will meet in the
afternoon of the first Sunday in
March. They urgently request the
attendance of all the ladies of the
neighborhood, regardless of denominational
preference.

Cants at Cedar Swamp, where he
was laid to rest beside his lamented
wife and his son, Julius, near by,felt
keenly the seriousness of the occasion.
Mr McCants once lived not
far from here and made many friends
in this section.
Misses Pauline Watson, Anna Devore
and Ruth Phillips, all teachers
of this section,visited Kingstree Saturday
on business.
We do not believe the proposed
act of the Legislature to make it unlawful
to offer tobacco for sale without
grading would meet the approval
of the people of Williamsburg
county. Let us hear from some one
on the subject. WES.
The President's innovation of holding
informal cabinet meetings in his
study on Friday nignts met witn
unanimous approval, but that was
before the arrival of Baby Say re.
If they are to be successfully continued,
the cabinet will have to
come en tiptoe and speak in whispers. I
