An Enjoyable Birthday Occasion

Hebron, December 12:?A big I
birth-Jay dinner at Mr S B McElveen's.the
old home of Mrs L A Mc-j
Elveen, was given Friday, December
11, in honor of Mrs L A McElveen's
seventy-ninth birth-day. On account
of so many of her grand-children
going to school, the family dinner
was postponed until Saturday, so
that the children and both teachers
could be present, though we all regret
that Mr Mitchell, the principal
of the Hebron school, could not attend
the dinner. All of Mrs McElveen's
family were there, including
all her grand-children except one.
Mrs Mary Sue Matthews of Jacksonville,
Fla. Mrs Annie McElveen, her
daughter-in-law from Jacksonville,
Fia, was with the family. All the
children and their families numbered
forty, besides five great-grand- j
children and several friends of the
family. The writer was there and
while he stood midway of about a
thirty or forty foot table, with all
the good eatables that heart could
wish for, he thought of our dear editor
and wished he could enjoV the
happy occasion, as I did.
The family of Mrs L A McElveen
and the many friends that enjoyed
the dinner at Mr S B McElveen's today
numbered about seventy-five
persons.
Wearly everyDoay in miss section
is enjoying good health, except Mr
H Baker, who has la grippe, but is
somewhat better than he was. All
hope he will soon recover.
Mr W M Mitchell, our esteemed
and popular teacher, left for his
home last night, his mother being
somewhat unwell. We hope he will
find her better when he reaches
home.
Cotton picking in this section isja
thing of the past. ' Farmers are
planting oats, some wheat-just what
all of them ought to do. "Uncle
Bob" McElveen says if the farmers
in this and surrounding sections
would guarantee enough wheat, he
would put in a flour mill at Hebron.
We hope the farmers will go in to
making their own wheat and stop
buying so much adulterated flour;
also make their own syrup, raise
their "hog and hominy" and live;
the farmers could live if they would.
Well. Mr Editor, if this don't fall
into the waste basket, I will come
again. ABC.
