The query for debate next Friday afternoon is: Resolved, That the doctor has has greater opportunity to Christianize the world than thepreacher. This is an interesting subject and we hope that the society will take aa active part. The members are becoming more interested in the work of the society and working towards its upbuilding. The attitude of the British authorities in withdrawing opposition to the international movement of cotton in neutral bottoms from sources of production to hostile countries, or to neutral countries for re-export, opens the way 'or our own staple to find markets where it is most needed. It also provides for the exporting of cotton from Egypt as well as from India. The former is largely used in Germany and Austria-Hungary, and the latter finds a good market in Japan. A very high degree oii convenience is thus secured by the attitude taken on the part of the British authorities. Quite apart from the economic advantage there is room here for mitigating the feelings of hate which Germans are said to entertain towards the British. Not will Germany get her ' cotton any cheaper than usual. It is figured that the cargoes taken by the six vessels now said to loading at Southern ports for destinations in Germany will cost that country every cent of $60 a bale by the time it lands there. VIIUI^W up in insurance and other risks, for which the perpetrators of the act in the end help largely to pay. Germany's need of the cotton is undoubted. Many of her mills were closed for want of raw cotton two or three months ago. Last year that country had taken 1.273,000 bales to December 1, paying out over $88,000,000. It is doubtful whether Germany has received as many as 50,000 bales of cotton since the war began. The employment situation will be vastly improved by the arrival of these 40,000 or more bales of cotton in Germany. The Egyptian supply now being available, will go still farther toward normal employment in Central Europe. The event is worthy of more than passing notice.
