Lake City, September 23:?Your j
correspondent was in error last (
week when she stated that the J
"buy-a-bale" movement had not
k been instituted at this place. While
there are no leaders or any general
organization to this effect, several
individuals, first arr.ong whom
were Misses Mary Jane and Adelaide
Belk, have already purchased their
bales at ten cents a pound; the
Smith-Williams company has reported
a purchase of several hundred
bales of cotton at that price, they
having accepted the cotton to be applied
to accounts or in exchange for
merchandise, which is, indeed, a
most commendable plan. Several
merchants have intimated to your
reporter that they would gladly accept
cotton in exchange for merchandise,
the cotton to be purchased
on the ten cent a pound basis.
