Special to The County Record. c Lake City, September 8:?Lake s i City High and Graded school began a i its session of 1914-15 this morning, 1: 1 when the formal opening exercises r 1 were held in the school auditorium, i o ' beginning with a prayer by Rev J p W Ariall, followed by an introduc- v tion and welcome to the members of E the faculty by Rev E P Easterling. i Mr W H Compton, the newly elect- t ed superintendent, responded to Mr C j Esterling's address, expressed the I no!iev*to be nursued bv the faculty, e i' '"" ~ - . ; and asked the co-operation of the i e patrons, pupils and friends of the i school, assuring them that he would . a endeavor to have the faculty do t their part. Never before in the history of the Lake City schools has n such interest been manifested in the "N opening exercises as there was today. The instructors were imbued with S the proper spirit, all the pupils d seemed to enter into their respec- t tive class rooms with unusual enthusiasm and the visitors were im- t pressed with the general air"of de- c corum that prevailed among the C pupils. As members of the faculty, Miss ie Bertha Morris, who has had charge , a of the sixth grade for the past sev- c eral years, Miss Amber Wilkes, the C third grade for even a greater pe- t riod of *time; Miss Sue Shaw, the I teacher of the seventh grade, who t also has'held this position for the past several years, and Miss Eva v North, who has charge of the music 1 department, are all young ladies t from Lake City, who have their o | homes and interests here; and Miss t Owen, instructor of the first grade, o Miss Ada Walker, the fifth, Miss u Hare, the second, were here last o year. The superintendent, Mr W H Compton; principal, Mr Grady Bow- It i man, and Misses Furs, Ellis and n Charlton are the only new members v, of the faculty this session. The en- it rollment today surpassed any pre- R vious enrollment on opening day, cj there being something over four hundred pupils in attendance. E Mrs J P Matthews, in a most ci charming manner, entertained the r< members of the "Kill Kare Klub," S< and a few invited guests, Friday af- tl ternoon from 5 to 7 o'clock, in her hi lovely home on North Acline avenue, m ;et it!
