Lack of Market for Crop.
Florence.?The European war scare
las thrown a bomb in the to be coo
(market, and it ie generally under-1
'stood that export buyers have been |
(called off the market through the en-1
tire bolt until foreign buaineee settles
[on a now basis. No one of the to-1
baooo men here will take the reaponei-1
hillty of giving out anything for pub'licatkm
and say that there is nothing
yet to aay except that conditions have
materially affected the market and
the buyers do not know just where
tbey stand. It ia not thought that
this condition will last long, for the
tobacco from this belt is eagerly
ought for, especially in England, and
the market normally would absorb a
crop much larger than the present at |
high price.
Wataon Vialts Hail 8ection.
Columbia.?E. J. Watson, commie
soner of agriculture, spent two full
days last week tlei ting the hail stricken
district in York county, with the
purpose of procuring, if possible,
state and federal aid.
Within the next few days Mr. Wateon
will go to Washington to present
the resolutions adopted by the sufferers
and their friends, memorallz?lrig
congress that something be done
by the national government to relieve
the destitute circumstances.
To supplement any other assistance
that the atate may render, Mr. Wateon
s&y6 that be will ask the next
general assembly to remit aH taxes
from the farmers In this district for
Cvo years. He win auso asc ior at j
appropriation to supply these with,
oed oorn and cotton seed for nest
year's crope. If this materialises, the 1
eonsmiaaioner says that a type of oot-1
ton will be introduced that can with-'
sntaad the ravages of the boll weevil '

American Tourists Panicky.
Antwerp.?American tourists here ;
ase in a panicky condition. The;
Kroonland sailed with a full comple-1
nnent of passengers, many of whom
left their baggage behind rather than
remain in Europe. The civic guard
hi? been called out.
Saks Increase.
Florence.?The meeting of bankers
and tobacco men here seems to have j
given strength to the market and the j
alee were good and at prices as good
as lest year. Buyers feel confident
that the banks can and will take care
o1 Theni and warehousemen are working
hard to prevent a slump. The
tobacco crop of this section would be
worth on a normal market as much as
$30,000,000, and that Is too great a
eum to trifle with in view of a 26 per
oral ahort cotton crop, and in many
section* very much shorter than that
