FARMER SHOT DOWN IN LOT.
Father-in-law of Dead Man Accased
of Killing.
Clio, July 16:?Jess Fields, a
white man living at Five Forks,
about three miles from town, was
shot and killed last night about
dark in his lot as he was unhitching
his horse from the buggy. His wife
was still in the buggy. Fields, it is
claimed, had been drinking some
during the past week, and his wife
went to her father's,T W Williams's.
Filds had just returned from her
father's farm with her in the bug?V
when he was shot by some one
concealed under the buggy shelter.
He was shot with a full load of
buckshot in the side. He lived
about four hours. On good authority
it is claimed he said before

shooting. Bloodhounds from Columbia
wore put on a trail and wont
straight to Williams's.

Mrs Marvin Wilson and baby girl,
Gladys, of Key West, Fla, have returned
home, after a six weeks' visit
to Mr Wilson's relatives here.
Misses Jennie and Margie Russell
of Lumberton, N C, are visiting relatives
here.

is visiting her cousin, Miss Annie

is a guest at Mrs R N Stuckey's.
Mr and Mrs Dudley Cook and
Dudley, Jr, of Johnsonville were
noted at Indiantown Sunday.

Salters Depot, July 20:?Copious
showers fell here Sunday, which
were badly needed. Crops were suffering
from the dry. hot weather of
last week. Corn and cotton are good,
tobacco only ordinary. Although the
days have been hot, the nights have
been pleasant.
Mrs C E Moseley is visiting relatives
at Blenheim.
Miss Florence H Stubbs is visiting
her aunt, Mrs Jas A Ferrell, of this
'place.
Mrs Jas A Ferrell and daughters.
Misses Emmie and Leila, have returned
from a pleasant visit to relatives
at Bennettsville.
We are giad to note that Mr E C
McDaniel's little daughter, Blanche,
who has been quite sick for some
time, is much better.
We were pleased to have with us
a short while last week Miss Sue
Stoll of Kingstree. Miss Sue is a
great favorite here and we are always
glad to have her.
Work on the new Methodist parsonage
is progressing nicely and in a
short time it will be ready for occu
pancy.
Fortune Burns, a very old negro,
died here last week. He was in his
98th vear, and was respected by all
who knew him. Look Out.
