A neat sum was realized. Among those who successfully passed the State board of medical examiners at Columbia yesterday were W B Baker, M D, Hemingway, and S McP Brown, M D, Andrews. Mr W W Holliday, the popular A C L agent at this place, left yesterday on his vacation. During his absence the depot will be in charge of Messrs A L McElveen and Chas A McCrea. Mr George Bass, a well-Known auctioneer of Danville. Va. has arrived in Kingstree and will be associated in the tobacco warehouse business here this season with Mr E L Morgan. Mrs M C Mouzon of Kingstree, Miss Gertrude Colclough of Summerton and Miss S S Gourdin of Salters left Tuesday for about a month's visit to Washington and New York. The State Warehousemen's association met at Florence Monday, when it was decided that the tobacco markets of the State should be opened for the sale of leaf tobacco Wednesday, July 22. Mr A B Jordan, editor and owner of The Dillon Herald, was in Kingstree Friday. Mr Jordan speaks in highly complimentary terms of the progress made by the town since he formerly visited it fifteen years ago. Mr Victor Caldwell, who ha? been with the Hamer-Thompson garage for some time past, has given up his position there and accepted the management of the Kingstree Telephone company's system, vice Mr Brewer of McCall, resigned. Mr S J Parker, one of the secretaries of the Y M C A at Charleston, will open a series of religious meetings at Lake City on the 26th inst. He will be assisted by Messrs Huthmacher, Sigwald and Westendorf, missionary workers of Charleston. Last Saturday, the "Glorious Fourth ".passed off quietly in Kingstree. The dispensary and the banks were about the only business houses to close for the day, although there was little going on. The postoffice force observed Sunday hours. The rain prevented numerous picnics that had been planned. Mr and Mrs E G Jacobs and daughter, Virginia, of Macon, Ga; Mr Juiian M Jacobs. L.iarieston, and Mr Louis Jacobs. Jr, Elloree, are quests of their brothers and sisters here this week. Miss Hazel Gewinner of Macon, Ga. is also a guest at the hospitable home of her cousins, the Misses Jacobs. Our friends have been mighty kind to us the past week. An esteemed friend, to whom we are indebted for manifold kindnesses from time to time,sent us as fine a box of peaci s as can be produced anywhere. Then another friend, a candidate. who is too modest to allow us to print his name, sent us a very nice .water-melon. These thoughtful friends do much to cheer the weary pilgrim on his journey through life. Thanks to the generosity of our friend, Mr W N Clarkson of Heinemann, we have fairly feasted on peaches the last few days. They were not merely "samples", but about eight dozen large, juicy, delicious crimson globules of luscious sweetness, to whose excellence we have seen no superior. We are also grateful to Mr B E Clarkson for his kindness in bringing to us this most acceptable gift. Mr J S Williams, a well-known and popular warehouseman of Danville, Va, is now in Kingstree, where he will be associated with Messrs W E Nesmith and L C Montgomery in the management of the new Central warehouse during the coming tobacco season. Ohio, another of the sturdy sons of our good friend, Dr A M Snidef, arrived in town today to spend a few days with hisparents.The Doctor says there is still another to ' rrive who has not yet left Cuba. We are sorry to learn that owing to bad health at Monck's Corner,Mr W W Barr, Jr. has resigned his position as cashier of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, of that place.
