A called meeting of the Kingstree Board or Trade was held at the court house Tuesday night. The object of the meeting was to discuss 2 and,if possible, inaugurate plans for ' an advertising campaign in the interest of Williamsburg county and | the Kingstree tobacco market. This was the first meeting of the board since its reorganization June 9, and the report of Treasurer W H Welch, while not altogether as enl. couraging as it might have been. was encouraging in view of the scarcity of money and the slack business conditions prevalent the past few months. The report showed that twenty-five members had enrolled and paid in their annual fee, and that fifty or more had expressed their intention of becoming members just as soon as the financial stringency relaxed. There was every indication at the ^ meeting Tuesday night that the or^ ganization would soon get down to ?. tkot umnlri hriner worn 1U a vraj wiv>v - ? _ about beneficent results. Another, and a very important meeting, will be held at the court house next Monday night, when it is hoped a full turn-out of Kingstree's business men will be present. A YOUTHFUL MURDERER. FIve-Year-Old Negro Beats Colored Infant to Death. Lancaster, July 7:?News reached here today of the killing of a negro child by a small boy in one of the rural districts of the county Saturday. The child's mother, it seems, had asked a little negro boy 5 years of age to look after and amuse her baby while she went on some errand or to do some work a short distance from the house. The boy replied that he wouldn't mind the DaDy out would kill it if left with him. Thinking that the youthful pickaninny might carry out his threat of killing her baby if left to his keeping, the mother locked the child in a room until she could get back, as she thought. But she had not been gone long ere she was called back to view the remains of her dead baby, for the little boy, who had been requested to attend the child during the mother's absence, had climbed in at the window, it is said, and with a stick had beaten the babv to death. Sheriff Hunter went yesterday to the scene of the murder, where he interviewed the youthful alleged murderer and his parents F and found the facts in the case as stated aboye. >?] Fromt II EVERYCM* customer insists on quality goc ) serve you acceptably?to sen verything in . Benson, July 8:?Farmers of this section are very much delighted, j having had such favorable weather \ conditions up to the present time. We had rain sufficient in the early j spring to germinate the planted j seeds and start them to growing. May and June were dry sufficiently for the planters to kill the growth of grass, and now July brings abundant refreshing showers to insure the fruiting process. Wednesday a few families of this community went to Black river late I in the afternoon for a pleasure trip, where they found elegant bream, | trout and red-breast that were just caught for the occasion. The fish were fine, fried while they fluttered fresh from the stream. By the moonlight, aided by a swinging lantern, supper was served and soon after fair Luna's shadows began to lengththat it was time to ICUUUUUig vtiwv .? move toward home. After an hour's drive that destination was reached and only pleasant memories linger after such a delightful outing. In reporting the Children's day exercises at Cedar Swamp we unintentionally (copied from notes carried to The Record office) omitted the name's of Misses Hessie and Eula Everette and Edith McCullough, who had very prominent places on j the programme and who have efficiently rendered their services on such occasions in the past. We are sorry that the omission inadvertently occurred. The "Fourth" was certainly spent "safe and sane" indoors, rain in this section falling during the entire afternoon. Mrs Ervin Grayson is able to be out, after being ill for some time. The young people enjoyed an icecream party at the home of Mr J B Chandler Tuesday evening. A young man from Darlington county is making visits here at short intervals. Well, what is to be, will be. j Cadet Jack McCullough of Clemson College is enjoying his vacation at home. WES Mr Sam 1 Gaskins Dead. We learn with sincere regret of the death of Mr Sam T Gaskins, whose home is near Lake City, Monday, June 29. Mr Gaskins was out walking near his house when he was suddenly stricken with heart failure and his death was almost instantaneous. he Cradl IE USES HARD) >ds, for CHEAP hardware is ab re you in a manner to win your Hardware. ^stree Ha Wholesale and ] CO MAP i the Williamsl g Hardware of lave always do RDWARE CC ANNOUNC This is to let the public connected with Nelson's V\ eer this year, and all tho | season will receive my it - - X i._ li, tion ana Dest enons. il policy to work hard for thi policy will be maintained ! to meet you all on the fl house, 1 am, Yours V It I J.
