The Millennium.
Editor County Record:?
The great cause of so much misunderstanding
about the Millennium
among Christian people is that they
do not read and study the articles of
faith set forth by their own churches.
Baptist Church Directory, page
561, article 20 ("The World to
Come"): "We believe the Scriptures
teach that the end.of the world is ap-'
proacbing; that at the last day Christ
.
will descend from Heaven and raise
the dead from the grave for final!
retribution; that a solemn separation
will then take place; that the!
wicked will be adjudged to endless
sorrow, and the righteous to endless I
joy, and this judgment will fix forever
the final state of men in Heaven
V
or hell on principles of righteousness.''
See 1st Peter iv:7: "But the
end of all things is at hand; be ye
therefore sober and watch unto
prayer." Acts i:ll: "This same Jesus
which is taken up from you into
Heaven shall so come in like manner
as ye have seen Him go into Heaven."
Very many more passages can be
cited in the Old and New Testaments.
Methodist Discipline, page
2, article 3: "Christ did truly rise
again from the dead and took again
His body, with all things appertaining
to the perfection of man's nature,
wherewith He ascended into
Heaven, and there sitteth until He
return to judge all men at the last
day." To suppose that these great,
good and intelligent people made a
mistake is to conclude that we are
wiser than they, which would be intolerable
ignorance. I often thank
God for such safe leaders in His
churches and rejoice to overflowing
in the fact that we shall have them
to the end. God will have men at
the head able to lead us safely by
His Word and Spirit.no matter what
men and devilslmay teach. Instead
of concluding Jwe are ahead of the
church, may| God open our eyes to
see how far behind we are. I often
sing with Dr Watts:
To Thee our spirits fly
With infinite desire;
And vet how far from Thee we lie;
0, Jesus, raise us higher.
Let us turn to Revelations, 20th

teachers and leaders think that they
have Scripture for the Millennium.
Verse 4: "And they lived and reigned
with Christ a thousand years." :
God alone can teach His Word.
Scripture must explain Scripture. 1
The context here: Gospel of John, i
v:22, 2d Cor v:10, 1st Thes iv: 15-17.
Another Scripture shows that all
judgment is committed to the Son
by the Father, and that in the i
church while on earth there will
be corruptions within and temptations
without, there will be hypocrites.there
will be offences. Though
freedom from all these will at that i
time De more tnan usuai, yei tatting
up the cross and living: conformed to
Christ in His sufferings will be duties
belonging to saints while the
world endures, hence there is no
ground in these or any other Scriptures
for millenniums. It seems not
probable, because the Scriptures are
silent about it. To expect Christ to
come and reign a thousand years on j
earth with His church is not taught
in the Word. It does not say He
reigned with them, but they reigned
with Him, denoting that His kingdom
is spiritual, consisting in purity
and peace, righteousness and joy in
the Holy Ghost. For various reasons:
first, if Christ came He would be no
use to His saints. He is glorified;
the saints are not and cannot be till
the resurrection, therefore they

supposed presence with them? Will j
they live all that thousand years or
die during the time? It is unreason- j
able to suppose that they will live, j
and if they die and go to Heaven,

will be an indescribable place with-!
out Him. It wiK be too melancholy |
a place if Christ be not there. "His
presence makes our paradise, and
where He is, is Heaven." The living
and reigning with Christ holds forth
the flourishing condition of the
church militant. The expression,
"sitting on thrones," speaks an honorable
condition that the church will
certainly be in after the downfall of
anti-Christ, and the term of a thousand
shows that it will be the longest
happy condition that the church
