BOARD OF TRADE
REORGANIZES
AND ELECTS NEW OFFICERSITS
AIM AND PURPOSES-ENCOURAGING
PROSPECTS. |
Notwithstanding the several notices
published, announcing that the
annual meeting of the Kingstree
Board of Trade would be held Tuesday
night, June 9, the second Tuesday
in June,as prescribed by the old
by-laws, there were scarcely a baker's
dozen who showed up at the
place of meeting at that time to
take part in, or in any way manifest
their interest in the most important
organization, from a business point
of view, that their town can have.
A reorganization of the old board
had been previously proposed, and a* I
full attendance of its members?the
business men of Kingstree?was desired
and earnestly requested, that
this work might be gone into, new
officers elected and such other matters
disposed of as might be brought
up for consideration with the voice
or consent of each individual member.
The meeting was called for 8:30
o'clock p. m. By 9:30 ten or a dozen
had assembled. It was decided to

on the benches headed for the court
house door. It was locked hard and
fast as the "'buttons on Gabe'scoat"
and the key?well, Secretary Hinds
couldn't locate it; but, determined
that the meeting should be held, he
called his little band of followers to
order, and it was a harmonious
meeting they held there on the old
stone steps ar. the night birds flitted
from tree to tree and chirped their
nocturnal notes.
Mr Thos McCutchen was elected
president, Mr W E Nesmith vice
president, Mr W F Tolley secretary
and publicity man and Mr W H
Welch treasurer.
A resolution was proposed and
adopted, fixing the membership fee
at $5.00 per annum, payable in advance,
so as to give the organization
a worKing capital to oe spent in tne
interests of the town and community
as occasion arises. Membership
cards will be printed and issued to
each member by the treasurer upon
the payment of $5.00. A committee
composed of A C Hinds, Esq, Messrs
E C Epps and W F Tolley was appointed
to prepare and get up a
suitable membership card.
Messrs W E Nesmith, W F Tolley
and A C Hinds, Esq, were appointed
a committee to formulate a set of
new by-laws and rules, to be submitted
at the next meeting of the
board. As the old constitution, by- j
laws and rules seem to have long j
been a burden to the organization,;
they were annulled.
It was moved and ordered by the ]
manner fhnt the secretary receive i
an annual salary of $100.00 and the
treasurer 5% of all fees. At 10:45
the meeting adjourned, subject to
the call of the president.
As the tobacco season approaches,
in view of the fact that we want to
further establish our claim to having
the best tobacco market in the
State, we must work to greatly
increase the sales here this season.
We desire to sell four million pounds
and it is the intention of the Board
of Trade to go out after and, if possible,
secure enough new business
among the tobacco growers of the
surrounding country to put our
market in the lead in quantity as
well as quality.
When the work of the Board of
Trade in connection with the marketing
of the present tobacco crop
has been finished, it will find much
to do in connection with the county
fair to be held here during October.
The new organization is enthusiastic
over the prospects of a splendid agricultural
year and the work before
it of making Williamsburg a banner
county and old "King's Tree" the
finest and best county seat town in
the grand old State. They want to
"strike while the iron is hot," so let
every business man come up to the
forge and lend a willing, helping
hand. It will pay you in the end.
Rev R H Jones, presiding elder

Take Plenty of Tine to Eat
There is a saying that "rapid eating
is slow suicide." If you have
formed the habit of eating too rapidly
you are most likely suffering
from indigestion or constipation,
which will result eventually in serious
illness unless corrected. Digestion
begins in the mouth. Food
should be thoroughly masticated1
and insalivated. Then when you |
have a fullness of the stomach or
feel dull and stupid after eating,
take one of Chamberlain's Tablets.
Many severe cases of stomach trouble
and constipation have been cured
by the use of these tablets. They
are easy to take and most agreeable
in effect. Sold by all dealers.
