In last week's issue of The Record
an appeal was made to all good citizens
of Williamsburg to assist in
the campaign for the eradication of
hookworm disease, now being carried
on in the county. This appeal

The first two days of this week
as many examinations were made as
during the whole two weeks previous.
Dr Riser has received many
letters of encouragement and offers
of assistance from representative
citizens. This work, in the interest
of public health, will last four weeks
longer in this county and we hope
that thousands will avail themselves
of this offer of free examination
and treatment. It is thought that
a similar campaign against tuberculosis
and malaria may be arranged
if just and proper appreciation is
shown for the work now being done.
75 per cent of the white children in
the county who have been examined
are found to have hookworm disease,
and the percentage among negroes
is the highest of any county in
the State. |Dr Riser, who is in
charge of this work in the county,
will be at the following places on
dates named where free examination
and treatment will be given.
Do not put this off till the last week
when so many apply and some will
have to be turned away. Every
Tuesday, Hemingway, Farmers'
Drug Store; every Wednesday,
Greelyville, Dr Taylor's office; every
Thursday, Gourdins, Dr Rich's office;
every Friday, Nesmith, Dr
Pratt's office; every Saturday, Kingstree,

Take Plenty of Time to Eat. .
There is a saying that "rapid eating
is slow suicide." If you have
formed the habit of eating too rapidly
you are most likely suffering
from indigestion or constipation,
which will result eventually in serious
illness unless corrected. Diges
tion begins in me uwum. ??v?
should be thoroughly masticated
and insalivated. Then when you
have a fullness of the stomach or
feel dull and stupid after eating,
take one of Chamberlain's Tablets.
Many severe cases of stomach trouble
and constipation have been cured
by the use of these tablets. They
are easy to take and most agreeable
in effect. Sold by all dealers.

The class had seemed exceptionally
bright and intelligent that afternoon,
and in consequence there
was a look of satisfaction on the
teacher's face.
"Now, James," she asked, "do
you really understand the meaning
of 'extinct?*"
"Yes'm," replied James.
"Then name one bird that is now
extinct."
James hesitated a moment, then:
"ChiDDer!" he exclaimed.
1
"Chipper?" inquired the teacher.
"And what kind of bird is that ?"
"My pet pigeon," came the reply.
'"The cat caught him this morning!"
