Mrs E E McGllI Dead.
News of the death of Mrs Emma
E McGill was received here yesterday
morning, causing sincere sadness
and sorrow to the many relatives
and friends of this estimable
woman.
Mrs McGill was the youngest
daughter of Capt and Mrs John E;
Scott, of Cedar Swamp. She was1
born in 1871, and would have been*
43 years old next August.
In 1890 she was happily married j
to Mr John Y McGill, who, with five!(
children, survives her. Besides her'
immediate family she leaves to1
mourn their loss, her mother, Mrs
Marian E Scott, three brothers and j,
one sister: Mrs J E Kennedy, Dr D i
C Scott. Messrs Thomas M Scott and j,
Mr N D Lesesne, all of whom now
reside in Kingstree. Not the least;
of those who feel stricken with sor- !|
row by the death of this admirable I,
woman is the writer of these lines,.);
the editor of The Record. We were j,
reared together and almost like that
of a sister are we affected by her
death. (
To say that the deceased was be- <
loved by every one in the community
where she lived her life of devo- i
tion to the welfare of others would j
be superfluous to those who knew
her best. Suffice it to say that all j
the virtues and graces that go to (
adorn the ideal type of noble worn- j
anhood were hers, and "none knew
her but to love her, none named her
but to praise." 11
The funeral services and inter- ,
ment took place this morning in the
presence of a large concourse of ;
relatives and friends who gathered ]

MASS MEETING TODAY
Of Tomato Girls and County
Fair Promoters.
As we close our forms this morning
a bevy of pretty tomato club girls
are gathering on the court house
green to witness and participate in
the canning demonstration work to
be conducted by Miss Edith Parrott,
State Tomato club organizer,
and the local agent, Miss
Amanda Edwards. Everything is in
readiness for the work. Several

crates 01 iresn nunua wmawcs
and green beans are on hand ready
to be put through the necessary
process. Tables, cooking apparatus
and all other essential paraphernalia
are on the ground, and there is every
indication that the canning demonstration
work will be a successful
feature of the day's programme.
The meeting of the tomato club
workers will be called to order in the
court house at 11 a. m. by Mr R N
Speigner. Prayer will be offered by
Rev P S McChesney and addresses
will be made by Mr Speigner, Miss
Edith L Parrott,and Prof C J Nevin,
of Clemson college.
Owing to the splendid rain yesterday
afternoon, which has brought
about a most desirable opportunity
for putting out tobacco plaDts, it is
very probable that a large number
of our representative farmers will
elect to stay at home today for that
work. However, there are a good
many in town already, and by the
hour set for the mass meeting this
afternoon we hope to see many more.
The following programme has
been arranged for the entertainment
of those interested in the county
fair project:

: GRADED SCHOOL NOTES- ]
Kingstree may well be proud of
the record made by the high school
boys who were sent to represent the
old town in the State Oratorical and
Athletic association, which was held
in Columbia April 23-24.
Thirty schools in the State competed.
In the oratorical contest
Zeno Montgomery, Kingstree's representative,
was chosen one of the
eight out of thirty for the final contest,
selection counting ten points
and delivery ninety points.
Earl Cook, McBride McFadden
and Alex Blakeley represented Kincstree
in athletics, and their god records
are indeed gratifying. Cook
won first in the shot put, his record
being 36 feet 3 inches. As a result
he is the proud possessor of a handsome
gold medal. McFadden was
in on the finals for the hurdle race
and acquitted himself well. This,
placed Kingstree eighth in athletics.
Congressman A F Lever has accepted
the invitation to address the
school on Monday morning of commencement
week, May 25. The
school is indeed fortunate in securing
him and we hope the auditorium
will be filled. Congressman Lever
is a forceful and elegant speaker
onft n front in in store for those who
hear him.a
