FLORENCE COUNTY MAN IN JAIL
Charged with Killing His Young
Wife.
F'orence, April 6:?Howard S
Clark, a well-known farmer of Back
Swamp township, was arrested today
under a warrant, charging him
with the killing of his young wife,
Mrs Parrott Clark, on last Tuesday .
at their home. It will be remembered
that it was at first reported
that Mrs Clark had committed suicide
by shooting herself through
the head, and that her fiusband,
with two of his hands, while in the
yard near the house heard the shots,
| and ran to her. finding her mortally
ill- 1 1 UL
j wounaeu, lying across me Dea wim
a piscol bullet thiough her temple,
from which she died a few moments
later.
Not content with the verdict of
coroner's jury which investigated
the death of this young wife, who,
it is reported, was soon to become a
mother, the brother of the deceased,
Mr Carl Parrott of Hartsville, so it
is reliably stated, had a warrant
issued for Clark, charging him with
the killing. The warrant was sent
to Sheriff Burch, and today Rural
Policeman Sam J Cole and Deputy
Sheriff Maxcy Burch went to Mr
Clark's home, just across Black
creek, and placed him under arrest,
bringing him to Florence later and
turning him over to the Sheriff.
It is said that Clark was somewhat
indifferent when the officers
informed him of the nature of their
visit, and without any words came
on to Florence with them. The arrest
of Clark has created a great
sensation throughout the city. As
soon as he reached the city he was
permitted to see attorneys.
Ever since the shocking tragedy of
last week there have been aU kinds
" of rumors afloat throughout the
' city concerning the death of Mrs
Clark, but nothing definite could be
learned until today when Mr Clark
was brought to the city.
Mr Clark is the son of the late
Fred Clark, who at the time of his
death was a member of the House
of Representatives from this county.
The Clark family are among the very
best people in the county. Mrs Parrott
Clark was only about 23 jears
1 old, and is a member of one of the
well known Parrott families of old
Darlington county. Mrs Clark was
married to Howard Clark less than
three years ago and was a most
charming and clever young woman,
and was admired by her many
friends for her lovely traits of
character and womanly virtues.
