who have been the guests here of
their daughter, Mrs L C Dove, for
several days, left for their home at
Chester yesterday.
The next lyceum attraction will
be the appearance of Mr Ross Crane,
the. famous cartoonist and clay
molder, at the school auditorium
Monday, March. 16.

Senator Epps and Representatives
Kellahan and Kirk spent the Legislative
recess at home,returning to the
Capitol in time to take up their respective
duties Wednesday morning.
, Mr Earle C Page, the genial traveling
representative of The Columbia
State, whose headquarters are
at Florence, was a welcome caller
at The Record office while in Kingstree
yesterday.
Mr R L Brockington of Andrews
served on the jury here last week,
and was detained in Kingstree by
the heavy show, as was also the case
with several other persons who had
driven long distances.
We hope and believe that the demolished
warehouse will be rebuilt,
bigger and better than ever. It
would be a reflection on the town
for a snow-storm to put a tobacco
warehouse out of business.
We are gratified to hear from a
number of tobacco planters that the
young plants were not injured by
the severe cold spell that ushered in
March. In some instances, however,
the plant beds were seriously injured.
Dr and Mrs R J McCabe of Kingstree
attended the silver wedding
t>f Dr and Mrs B G Gregg at Florence
last Friday evening, February
27. This is said to have been one
of the most brilliant social functions
ever witnessed in Florence or vicinity.
Dr D C Scott is today moving his
stock of drugs into the Gourdin
building, opposite the court house,
preparatory to tearing down his old
store on Academy street, where he
will at once commence work on the
erectioD of a moderh brick structure
to be occupied,when finished, as
a drug store and office building.
Miss Ruth Nettles, who has been
in Atlanta, Ga, for some weeks past
taking a course in the millinery art,
has successfully completed her stud

she has accepted a position as milliner
with one of the leading firms of
that city. Her many friends here
wish her much success in her new
field.
D L Fulton, principal of Tomlinson
Graded school, colored, informs
us that many improvements have
been made to the school during the
present session and that the institution
is in a flourishing condition,
with three teachers and 237 pupils.
Already they are making preparations
for what they are to make the
most successful commencement in
the school's historv.
Many of our correspondents
seem to have followed the example
of the ground hog and gone into
winter quarters. By the way, who
ever saw a ground hog in this country?
The nearest approach to the
classic ground hog we have ever
been honored with is sausage
(ground hog). And we daresay,
that that form of the ground hog
has been much in evidence here
recently.
Mr L D Rodgers has sold out his

grocery business here to Messrs ["
Harry Britton and J Percy Hutson, I
who will conduct the business in future
upon an enlarged scale. Both
of these "boys" are well known and
popular young business men of
Kingstree, Mr Britton having been
for some time past employed at the
Milhous'& Jennings store, while Mr
Hutson has been engaged in similar
employment with Messrs Jacobs &
Scott for several years past. The
Record joins their host of friends in
wishing them success.
The revival services being conducted
by Rev Raymond Browning
[and Mr Joseph Chamberlain at the
school auditorium here are attract|
ing large and attentive audiences at |

Mr Chamberlain, assisted by
his wife at the piano, has charge of
the music. A special choir has been
selected and thirty-minute song|
services are held each night before j .
Mr Browning begins preaching. The
songs are mostly new to local sing-1
ers, but Mr Chamberlain is much
pleased over the manner in which his
choir is "catching on" to them. A !
special service for men will be held j
at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, when Mr
Browning will deliver his famous;
sermon, entitled "The Phoenix." All j
men from 14 to 100 years of age are
invited to attend this meeting.
The stockholders of Kingstree;
Tobacco Warehouse Co met at the
office of the Bank of Kingstree j
Monday at noon for the purpose of

about by the collapsing of the old
structure on Hampton avenue.known ,
as Gorrell's warehouse,Thursday last.'
The stockholders were not in favor i
of rebuilding the Gorrell warehouse!
and passed a resolution authorizing !
the directors to proceed to sell all
the property of the company at >
public auction for cash as soon as
practicable. Besides the lot on '
Hampton avenue and the collapsed
building thereon, the compay owns
several lots in North Kingstree, on
one of which is located a big frame j
structure originally erected for a)
tobacco warehouse, which is now in
a diianidatpd condition. The ac
gregate property of the company j
must bring 86,500 as an upset bid, |
for that amount has been placed ,
upon it. .
