Johnsonville, February 15:?The
Excelsior Literary society of Johnsonville
High school held its regular
annual re-election of officers Friday,
February 6, and the following officers
were elected: President, Trisvan
Cockfield; vice president, Janie Davis;
secretary and treasurer, Elizabeth
Cannon; 1st critic, Bertha Ard;
2nd critic,Oiene Venters; 1st censor,
Vaughn Cox; 2nd censor, Phora Davis;
corresponding secretary, Lucile
Rollins. The new officers will assume
their duties February 20. Several
amendments have been made to the
constitution, whereby we will be
able to do better and more efficient
WOIK.
At the last lyceum entertainment
an address was delivered by Edward
Aldine Powers, his subject being:
"Renaissance of the South", which
was very interesting and instructive
to the pupils, most especially those
of the high school,
A good many of the pupils were
looking forward to attending the
Georgetown county contest, but
were very much disappointed to find

A number of the children expect
to attend our ?ounty contest, which
will be held at Kingstree March 27.

Will Present Novel Progrem on Lyce

The Boston Lyrics were booked foi
a long tour in the south last season
and appeared on the big Chautauqua
and Festival Circuit Program sent out
by the Alkahest Lyceum System. The
company met with such universal appreciation
on the part of tbeir audi
ences that they have been engaged foi
another tour, and they will appear ii
our city in a short time on the local
Lyceum course.
The personnel is Flavel R. Jordan
Jr.. Miss Bertha Wells and Miss Carolyn
Jordan. Mr. Jordan has a splendid
baritone voice and is also a verj
clever cartoonist Miss Wells is s
reader and impersonator, and Miss
Jordan, piano soloist, will accompanj

the other members in their musical se
lections.
The program consists of baritone
solos, Instrumental solos and duets,
cartoon sketches, monologues, musical
readings and pastel readings, the lasl
being a decided novelty. The reading
by Miss Wells is illustrated by pastel
drawings done by Mr. Jordan. The
instruments include a cornet, trom
bone and also a bell toned musical In
strument known as the marymba
phone, which is played by Mr. Jordan
and Miss Wells in duets.
The entertainment by this clever trie
will be novel and highly entertaining
and the Lyceum patrons are assured
of an evening well worth while.
