At Milledgeville, Ga, Monday s gang of yeggmen blew open the safe of C H Bonner, a rich man whc was afraid to trust his money tc banks or savings institutions, and robbed him of over ten thousand dollars. The moral is plain: Pul your money in a bank and let il draw interest, instead of being a temptation to thieves and robbers, thus placing not only your money, but your life as well, in danger. County Commissioner Hammel has a notice in this issue relative ti paupers, that, in our opinion, is very timely. We had no idea thai v there were as many paupers ir Williamsburg county as the County Commissioner's report indicates In round numbers the money paic ! to paupers amounts to about tnirteen hundred dollars for the last I quarter of the past year. W\ - W\ <"W\ Mr James W Hughes,a well-known Western Union telegraph lineman, who was struck by a freight train on the Atlantic Coast Line railway at Lake City Friday, died Sunday night at the Florence Infirmary from his injuries. XXX The supreme court of Georgia by its decision Tuesday sustained the verdict of the lower court in the case of Leo M Frank, the young pencil factory superintendent who was sentenced to death for the murder of 14-year-old Mary Phagan in Atlanta April 26 of last year. XXX Yesterday Thomas P Gore, United States Senator from Oklahoma, was exhonerated in the District court of charges of improper conduct towards Mrs Minnie E Bond of that State, who brought suit against him for SoU.tHX) damages, ine jury was out only ten minutes and but one ballot was taken to vindicate the blind statesman. XXX J F Walker and his son, Ben Walker, arraigned for the killing of Chief of Police J B Harter, of Allendale, last September, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Court of General Sessions at Hampton on Monday and Judge Sease sentenced them to serve ten years and five years, respectively, on the public works of Hampton county. XXX Stephen Lindler, a young man of Lexington county. wa3 instantly killed Tuesday when the automobile in which he was riding with a friend turned over on the public highway near Gilbert. The accident happened about midnight. Ross A Barre.Lindler's companion, who was chauffeur, suffered a fractured rib and a few slight bruises. The car was wrecked. XXX President Wiison has sent to the United States Senate the names of Francis H Weston, Esq, of Columbia and Editor James L Sims, of the Orangeburg Times and Democrat, as appointees, the former to the office of District Attorney and the latter to fill the office of United States marshal, thus ending a long drawn out contest. Mr Weston was recommended by Senator Smith and Mr Sims by Senator Tillman for their respective positions. D C, after an illness of ten days. Though Senator Bacon had been seriously ill with kidney trouble and complications developing from a broken rib, his death was unexpected. He was 75 years old.
