Mr David Silverman of Atlanta was in town this week. He expects aeon, he says, to enlarge the business here of his wife, Mrs Sadie Silverman, which is now conducted under the name of J S Eron. Kev Jno Jeter Hurt,who delivered an address in Charleston Sunday to the Y M C A, stopped here Tuesday to visit hfs brother, Rev W E Hurt, m route to Durham, N C, where he is pastor of the First Baptist church. The work of remodeling the Stackley building' at corner of Main and Academy streets, preparatory to its occupancy by the Wee Nee Bank, has begun in earnest and will be pushed to rapid completion. This week our school will put in | operation a plan which has been sue-, cessfully tried elsewhere, and which,! we hope,\vill work to our good. Ev- j ery Monday a card will be given to j each pupil of the school, which he, will take home,have a parent to sign, | and bring back Tuesday morning. If the pupil's work and conduct have been excellent,that is,if he has made over 90% in everything,his card will be blue. If his work has been fair, his card will be white, but if he has failed in any lesson, his card will be red. Thus parents can see at a glance just what their children are doing. We hope they will not tolerate the bringing home of red cards. Rev D A Phillips conducted chapel exercises one morning last week. He had not been able to do so for some time and we were glad to have him. After chapel, he visited several class-rooms. Some of our teachers and pupils are very much interested in the planting of flowers around our school-house. With the coming spring we hope to have an attractive front i yard. Our athletic teams have begun to practice for Field day, which occurs some time in March. Friday night the high school pupils will give a play, the proceeds of which will be used to equip the base ball team. "On the 24th of this month the teachers will give a play to pay off a debt contracted by the school library. The Wee Nee Literary society held its regular meeting Friday.February 6, with Mr McFaddin in the chair. The programme was carried out very nicely,the query for debate} being,Resolved, That compulsory education should be adopted in South Carolina. The decision was rendered in favor of the affirmative. The company's old store house has been extensively overhauled and remodeled and is now one of the handsomest store rooms to be found in this section of the State. Under the supervision of Mr Chas H Singleton, the work of remodeling was begun on December 31 and pushed to completion on record time. The work, too, has been well and carefully done. Mr Swails informs us that he has in transit a large and handsome stock of new goodsVlth which to grace this new dry goods and millinery emporium. Look for ad next week. Mr G F Wearn, a representative of the Globe Tailoring Co, of Cincinnati, will be in Kingstree tomorrow and Saturday, with headquarters at the store of the People's Mercantile Co, for the purpose of displaying his handsome line of fabrics and taking orders for tailor made clothing. The Kingstree Hardware Co have a chansreof ad in this paper, Hardware Talk No 1 for 1914," which tells about the large and varied line they carry and the advantages of buying from them when in the market for hardware. Messrs Jenkinson Bros Co have a big ad on page seven specializing in misses' and children's dresses. They also call attention to the large stock of shoes, etc, that they are selling at reduced prices. The Phoenix Furniture Co of Charleston have an ad in this paper and it goes without saying that this well-known house can furnish the ! goods. Mr T E Baggett, jeweler, in his change of ad calls attention to his choice stock of watches, clocks, jewelry, fountain pens, etc. He is also prepared to do repair work promptly and satisfactorily.
