Columbia, February 9:?The Gener>J Assembly began the fifth week of the session today, the House meeting at 1 p. m. while the Senate reassembled at 8 o'clock this afternoon. The Senate resumed discossion of the McLaurin Warehouse Vf bill and the House took up the Sanv d&TB bill aimed at driving houses of * "ijjlkme out of the State. f 'iC^e Williamsburg county Representatives have voted throughout in favor of the Sanders bill and on the many rolls ca'ls forced by the coterie of the House, which have been filii.? 1?t ? The dozen of roll calls on this proposiki tion show their readiness to vote to pass the bill into law. ^ The House killed the bill providfor the sale of the present asylum property in Columbia and the using of the funds to remove the asylum out of the State park. Messrs Kirk and Kellahan voted in < favor of the bill, but it was lost on a tie vote and then killed on a vote to reconsider, t .: Senator Epps made the motion in the Senate to refer the Governor's V^teessage on Senator Christensen to w >*$Bbe Judiciary committee, but the ) ^motion was lost. The Senator voted gainst reciilling the matter from the Judiciary committee and in the open session voted with the rest of the Senate to print the Governor's vario is messages and Senator Christensen's sta'^ments in the permanent journal, thus ending this matter. Senator Epps of Williamsburg county has introduced a bill to levy annually a one mill tax for the public schools of the State and to provide for the distribution of same. Lt. This bill seeks to establish a fixed ^ and permnient policy of the State concerning the public schools. It j provides for furnishing the neces- J L sary fund, now provided by annual; ... appropriation under the several i'\ fisting acts. It provides also for ' tne encouraging of industrial and, -'special work in schools when approved by the State Board of EduI : Ation. In the passage of the local option compulsory school education bill Mr Kellahan voted nay. The other two Williamsburg members were not recorded as voting either way. Messrs Kirk and Kellahan voted in favor of the passage of the bill making rate on passenger trains two cents. Both of these bills passed the lower House by overwhelming majorities. The joint resolution introduced by Representative Kirk directing the enuntv of Williamsburg to reDay to , John M Nexsen the sum of $140.62 has been ratified by both Houses and gone to Governor Blease for signature. The Williamsburg House delegation has introduced a bill submitting the question of the repeal of the exemption of certain territory of Williamsburg county from the operation of the general stock law. The bill went on the calendar without refer-" ence. Senator Eppshas a bill permitting 1 the County Supervisor of Williams- < burg county with the County Commissioners to borrow money for the payment of ordinary and school ex- ' penses of the county and pledge the current taxes in payment. This is a general law applying to several coun- ] ties, and Senator Epps proposed an < amendment permitting Williamsburg j county to come under its provisions. The Boston Lyrics were booked for t long tour in the south last season tnd appeared on the big Chautauqua md Festival Circuit Program sent out by the Alkahest Lyceum System. The yompany met with such universal appreciation on the part of their audijnces that they have been engaged for mother tour, and they will appear in :>ur city in a short time on the local Lyceum course. The personnel is Flavel R. Jordan, Jr., Miss Bertha Wells and Miss Carolyn Jordan. Mr. Jordan has a splen lid baritone voice ana is aiso a vci.? clever cartoonist Miss Wells Is a reader and impersonator, and Miss Jordan, piano soloist, will accompany THE BOSTON LYRICS. the other members in their musical selections. The program consists of baritom solos, instrumental solos and duets cartoon sketches, monologues, musica readings and pastel readings, the last being a decided novelty. The readinf by Miss Wells is illustrated by paste drawings done by Mr. Jordan.
