His theme, "The South's Greatest Peril and How to Meet It," was both idealistic and practical. The large crowd that assembled to hear this noted speaker was both pleased and edified by his forceful and masterful way of handling this large and interesting subject. Dr. Jones ; stressed the fact that the South's j greatest peril is in Lawlessness? j spelt with a capital Lif you please? ; that a reform movement was necessary, cleaner politics, more intelligent and capable law-makers, and the way to "Meet It," was with religion, not combining the church with the State, but making politics and religion work in harmony. His subject has given the larger part of hio hearers much food for thought, j which we trust will be put into ef iecc ac tne next general election. A reference was held here last Tuesday in re Jones against Williams, et al. referee, Hon C W Stoll of Kingstree; F L Wilicox, Esq, of Florence and Walter Hazard, Esq, of Georgetown, were present. Much interest is manifested in this case due to the prominence of parties in interest and the tangled 'knot the case presents. Mrs Lilly Askins, accompanied by her father, Major S M Askins, went down to Charleston last evening for medical treatment. Mrs Askins has been suffering intensely with her eyes for the past several months, and, despite skilled medical treatment, they seem to grow worse each day. Huggins of Hot Springs, Arkansas, who has been spending some time with her daughter, Mrs G L Sauls, at this place. Mrs A H Williams entertained the Ladies' Aid society yesterday afternoon. After the business session had adjourned the hostess served delieious refresments. Friday afternoon Mrs M E Hanna was hostess to a large circle of her friends, complimentary to Misses Hare, Dillard and Walker and Mrs E Bond, a recent bride. In the re ceiving line were Mrs Hanna, Misses ] Hare, Dillard and Walker. After j the guests had assembled, an inter- ] esting contest, in the nature of pic- , tures of the Presidents, was presented to each of the guests with a number thereon, the one guessing ' the most to be awarded the first prize. It was quite a test to recall the names of the different Presidents, 1 much less their faces; but, Mrs JL U Holloway, having guessed the greatest number, seventeen, out the twenty-seven, was awarded a large and beautiful box of stationery. It might be embarrassing to say who guessed the least and the number,so here's where we stop. Afterwards a delicious salad course, followed by fruit cake and hot chocolate, was served. Mrs J D Eaddy will entertain the Book club this afternoon. Misses Lyda and Bessie Howie leave this morning for Charleston, where they wiii be the guests of their sister, Mrs Davis Powers. Rev P S McChesney took his place in the parlor, where the bride md the groom approached and jtood before him, while the solemn vords were said that made them nan and wife, in the presence of a few friends and relatives. The bride was lovely, attired in a :ostume of white satin, beautifully rimmed with white lace, wearing t veil caught up with delicate bride oses and carrying a bouquet of >range blossoms. The bride is a charming ana atractive young lady of this section, vhose numerous friends wish her nany happy days along life's jourley. The groom is a sterling young msiness man, who is well known in he county.
