The home of Mr and Mrs A M
aordon at 8:30 Sunday night was
the scene of a quiet wedding, when
:heir daughter, Miss Mary Henry
Gordon, became the wife of Mr J G
Ellis of Gillisonvilie,where the bride
las been engaged as a teacher durng
the present session.
The marriage was a surprise to
the many friends of the young lady
lere, and only a few even knew
that she was at home. The ceremony
vas performed by Rev D A Phillips,

For the South, amid showers of rice
ind the best wishes by friends of the
uride who had gotten wind of the
marriage and gathered at the depot
to wish the couple God-speed.

Lane, January 17:?At 3:30 p. m.
January 15, at the Presbyterian
church at Lane, Miss Fannie McKnight
became the bride of Mr
Elliot McKnight of Greelyville.
The church was beautifully decorated
with ferns, bamboo and evergreens
and lighted Jack-o-lanterns,
which cast a witching glow over the
whole scene.
Two little flower girls preceded
the bridesmaids and groomsmen, little
Miss Maria Francis McKnight of
Gourdin, and Miss Edna Parker of
Lane. The former was dressed in

flowers, and the latter was dressed
in blue and carried a basket of
variegated flowers. The bridesmaids
and groomsmen were: Miss Nonie
Broom of Lane with Mr Bradshaw
of Greelyville; Miss E McDonald of
Lane with Mr Esom of Greelyville;
Miss Mattie Egerton of Lane with
Mr Elbert McDonald of Gourdin;
Miss Allen Brown of Friendfield
with Mr James Small of Gourdin.
Miss Mamie Baggett of Lane played
the wedding march. Mr S -G
McDonald, also of Lane, acted as.
usher. A large crowd, friends of
the bride and the groom from nearby
towns, attended the beautiful wedding.
The happy couple were the
recipients of many handsome and

News Notes from Scranton.
Scrknton, January 20:?Three negroes
were haled up Sunday for
dealing in the "oil of joy". All
pleaded guilty and were fined $25
each or 30 days alternative. The
fines were paid.
Mr I M Gamble received a telegram
this morning stating that his
step-father, Mr P S Hawkins, had
died Monday night. He left on train
79 to attend the funeral. IMG.
