Benson, January 10:?At this season a number of people of our neighborhood are changing their places of habitation, this being the case mainly among the colored population. Mr Barney Crooks has bought and removed his family to Mr Willie Foxworth's place and Mr R S Bell and family have removed to Mrs Marion Scott's old home,in this community. Miss Belle Adams of Rock Hill returned home last week, after a visit here to her sister, Miss Bennie Adams, the accomplished principal of Cedar Swamp Graded school. The increased acreage of tobacco is evidenced in the new barns that? are being constructed, besides, from the information gathered from those who expect to enlarge on last year's crop. Cotton is still bringing a living price and it is very likely to sell around the same figures next fall; _ a- -i iiuw.ii is up iu Lue pianwrr to unuuse judiciously between the "flescy ?taple" and the "golden weed" as a money crop. Mr W E Snowden was unfortunate in the loss of one of his mules Sunday morning. The animal was 3ick only for a short time and dropped dead. In June, 1911, he lost three work animals from being burned to death, then one had to die naturally. And, yet, some folk say there is no such thing as luck. Quite an enjoyable social entertainment was given at the home of t _ i if n_jj aar jonn i uncum r naay evening. All present expressed themselves as hoping for a repetition erelong of the delightful occasion. Measles seems to be epidemic at present. Mr T Armstrong McCrea is suffering from the effects af the malady. WES. LIFE AT LEO. A Variety of News from a Busy Community. Leo,January 10.?We had preaching at Prospect church Sunday morning by our pastor, Rev P B Ingraham, who gave us a fine sermon. Everybody is hard at work now planting out tobacco beds. I think there will be a larger crop of tobacco planted around Leo this year than ever before. Mr W B McCants of Georgetown was at Leo one day last week buying lumber. Mrs Emma Johnson of Johnsonville came up last week to spend some time with her daughter,Mrs R F Brown. Mrs B B Johnson and son, Jeddie, of Bethune are spending a few ^ays with relatives at Leo. Mr I,amar Prosser of Hannah is now "keeping store" for Mr R A Brown. We are glad to welcome Mr Prosser here and wish for him a successful business year. Your scribe has been informed that Mr J D King of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will operate a warehouse for the sale of tobacco at Johnsonville next season. If this be true, watch Johnsonville's market! Mr and Mrs Floyd Hanna of Johnsonville are spending a few days with Mrs Hanna's parents, Mr and Mrs W W Burrows. As "coming events cast their shadows before." we expect wedding bells to ring out around Leo soon. W W B.
