City are busy this week effecting

contract for the erection of a series

The ground was broken last
week and work is progressing rapidly,

A general exodus of students was
noticeable on hist Sunday evening
and Monday morning,had you happened
towards the station. Quite a
number of folk were leaving and returning
from the holiday dissipations(?).
Miss Violet Askins, assisted by
her mother, Mrs \V T Askins, entertained
the "Kill Kare Club" last
FViJnv afternoon. Despite the
* ?
threatening weather a large number
of the members were present. The
first hour was spent going over business
matters. An interesting contest
was then engaged in, '(A Tree
Romance," in which Mrs L 0 Holoway
won the first prize. After the
entertainment programme a delightful
salad course, consisting of several
delicious salads, followed by
coffee and cake, was served. The
next meeting, February 6, will be
with Mrs T J Cottingham.
Mrs \V T Moody was hostess
last Friday evening at an "ovster
roast". Several of her young friends
thoroughly enjoyed the evening with
their charming hostess.
ESC Baker,Esq, has returned to
Conway, where he will establish
himself in the practice of law.
C E St Amand, Esq, of Kings
tree waa in town last week, appearing
in the municipal court in the
one case brought up for disorderly
conduct during the pleasant Christmas
season.
School work was resumed here
Monday morning, all of the teachers
having returned from the holiday
recess, except Miss Pritchard Shuler
of St George, who is detained on account
of a slight indisposition contracted
before her departure for her
home. Quite a number of her pupils
seem to be likewise afflicted
with the epidemic- mumps.
Misses Laura Stuckey and Mamie
Lynch have returned to Columbia
to resume their work. LBN.
THE BANK OF K1NGSTREE
Holds Annual Meeting of Stockholders?A
Prosperous Year.
Yesterday, at 11:30 o'clock, the
I Bank of Kingstree held its annual
meeting in the directors' room of its
banking hQUse. The meeting was
well attended, a majority of the
stockholders being present. It was
shown that a large increase in the
net earnings of the bank had been
made, deposits had increased by
$50,000 and that the year 1913 had
been the most profitable in the
banks's history.
The officers and board of directors
were extended a vote of thanks
by the stockholders for their efficient
and successful management of the
bank's business, and the old board
of directors was re-elected with
five additional members making

Annual Meeting Wee Nee Bank.
The annual meeting of the stockholders
of the Wee Nee Bank was

held Monday, at ix:ou a. m.t wun
the largest number of stockholders
present that has ever attended one
of the bank's similar meetings. The
report of the cashier showed a net
increase in the bank's earnings over |
last year, with a corresponding increase
in all departments of the
bank's business.
A profit of $3,100 was disposed of
as follows: Seven per cent to stockholders,
$1,000 passed to surplus
fund and the balance to undivided
profits. In addition to this, a sum
sufficient to cover 25 per cent of the
cost of furniture and fixtures for
their new banking house was paid
out of the bank's earnings for the
year.
The officers and stockholders expressed
themselves as well pleased
with the showing made, and are enthusiastic
over the promising outlook
for the future.
The old directors and officers were
re-elected, as follows: Directors,
Hugh McCutchen.H E Montgomery,
W V Strong, J K Smith, T K Smith,
W B Cooper, W R Scott; president,
Hugh McCutchen; vice president, W
V Strong; cashier, L C Dove; assistant
cashier. Miss Lilly Cunningham.
Today a contract will be awarded
for Remodeling the Stackley building
and converting it into a modern, upto-date
banking house, and. a3 outlined
by the plans, the new home of
the Wee Nee will be one of the most
convenient, substantial and imposing
banking houses in this section of the
State. It is expected that the work
of remodeling will begin within the
next few days, and March 1 is fixed
as the date for occupancy.
