Second Lyceum Number a Fine Attraction. f Such an entertainment as that "resented Friday evening at the I school auditorium by the"Camt)ridge Players" sent out by the Alkahest Lvcjum was deserving of better patronage than the slim audience that gre.-ted them here. True, the cold weather, the near approach of the holidays and the various social diversions in town and vicinity marking the advent of the festive season in some measure affected the attendance at the lyceum entertainment, but we feel confident that had the people of Kingstree known what a high class entertainment was being offered them in the "Cambridge Players," there would Ihave been a crowded house. Coffer,whose versatile and clever acting was far above the ordinary?held the audience for two hours delighted with their rendition of a programme replete with pleasing numbers,comprising music,mirth and dramatic master-piecea It was a style of entertainment that ap| pealed to popular fancy and at the same time gave mental pabulum to those who require more than the titillation of foaming phrase, syncopated music and up-to-date slang. This was the second number of the lyceum course and the next attraction comes in January. We hope that the class of entertainment that is being furnished will meet with a more appreciative response in future by giving the next number of the lyceum a crowded house. Scranton's new Baptist church will be dedicated the fourth Sunday in December. Gillespie's Shows gave two performances here Monday. Some were delighted?others wish they had their money back. The educated ponies were especially clever. Mr Leo Ward, of the Hannah section, died Saturday night and was buried at the Hebron cemetery Sunday afternoon. Washington, December 12:?The American cotton crop for the season of 1913-14 will amount to 13,677,000 bales of 500 pounds (not including: linters), according to the first estimate made by the Government this year through the crop reporting board, bureau of statistics, department of agriculture, and announced this afternoon. This compares with 13.703,421 bales of 500 pounds, ex_i : -r i:_i. The average of the crops of 1907-11 was 12,331,047 bales, exclusive of linters. South Carolina -Total production, 1,330,000 bales, compared with 1,182,128 bales last year and 1,240,399 bales the average of 1907-11. The value of the crop, with seed, last year was $80,880,000.
