Cupid's Capers Culminate in Conjugal Conjunction. * * i | Benson, December 2:?The church/ going folk of this community for the B past week ha^e been awaiting anxB iously news of the annual Methodist B Conference appointments. Rev R E g Peeler has been assigned to the j B Cades charge and will preach his first sermon at Cedar Swamp Methodist church in the afternoon of the ^B third Sunday in December. Rev J Lj Mullinix, the former pastor, and' Presiding Elder R L Holroyd have tjsj& been sent to other fields of labor. . The Presbyterian denomination of Central church held a three days' B meeting last week. Sunday a large 1|| congregation was present at comB munion services. The pastor, Rev W I Sinnott, was unusually edifying f in the series of sermons delivered during the meeting. We had the pleasure of attending a hot supper at Bloomingvale last B Friday Evening given for the benefit of the school at that place. The crowd was a fairly good representaV ^ion of the local and nearby comm "^munities and without exception the f occasion was quite a success. That L section has fallen in line anderected a school building recently on an |\ up-to-date plan with every modern convenience for the comfurt of teachers and pupils. The school has a large enrollment, under the management of Miss JessieD Bethea of * McColl. Mrs M E Huey of Rock Hill is here on a visit to her daughter,Miss Mary, who is one of the teachers in the graded school. Dr and Mrs John C Beckman of Greelyville, with their little son. Jack, spent the week-end at the home of Mr T J Phillips. We are reliably informed that L "Cupid's curious capers" will culK minate in a conjugal conjunction at ^ the Methodist church Wednesday, December 10. WES. White Oak, December 2:?Mr J A Griffin and family have moved1 here from Brockington. Messrs C K and S C Eaddy spent several days last week with friends in the Cedar Swamp section. They went deer driving several times while there. They report having had a jolly good time aW- right, but they didn't' bring back any more venison than they carried with them. | Miss Pauline Cantey spent the * 1 Thanksgiving holidays witn ner parents and friends at Workman. Mr G W Ward and family spent the week-end with Mrs Ward's parents, Mr and Mrs J T Friersun, of Mouzons. <* Mr C K Eaddv went to Kingstree Saturday on business. Mr W E Flowers attended court at Kingstree last week as a juryman. Among others attending court were: Messrs A P Buff kin, Joh^i Epps, M M Cox and C K Eaddy. We notice several families making changes for another year. Some of our folk are moving out, and we are having others come in, while some go through to other localities. Mr M M Cox has recently moved his saw and grist mill near to Mr Simpson Johnson's place, in the i vicinity of Bethesda church, which gives a great many of us some disadvantage in getting our corn 1 ground. It seems that that is an excellent locality for a grist mill and ginnery, and we hope to see some of our wide-a-wake business men get together and establish a ! first class concern ere anocher year rolls around. FOR METHODISTS, GENERAL CONFERENCE MAY j RATIFY VOTE--THE STATUS OF j COLLEGES AFTER DIVISION. Rock Hill. December 1:?There will be two Methodist conferences i in South Carolina, i ne question 01 j the division of the State Conference came up as" a special order at 10 | o'clock this morning, and by a very I decisive vote it was decided to make I two conferences. The vote was 123 to 8. Rev D M McLeod of Sumter was the author of the resolution, and i:i a very forceful way argued that the body was too large to be enterj tained in most towns. ! Rev John 0 Willson, D D, of j Greenwood very strenuously opposed the division. Rev R S Trues-1 dale of Char.eston advocated the division in a very forceful and effect| ive speech, which elicited hearty api nlonpo POTT T M msrlp a I . IVt ? W HA w^wuumu ?< I speech of opposition. Rev J C Roper favored division. v The vote showed an unexpected sentiment. The lines have not been decided upon, but will be determined 1 later. It wi.l be necessary for the General Conference to ratify this vote, but it is hardly probable, that I this decisive vote will be ignored. I Rev Peter Stokes read the report< of the board of education. Several speeches on education were made by ! representatives of the several col; leges of the Conference. Dr E 0 ' Watson was anxious as to the atatus ! of the colleges when the division of ! the Conference was effected. He 1 ... i wanted it written into tne constuu| tion that the schools be the joint property of the two Conferences.
