A large attendance was present, including about twenty-five persons who came over from Kingstree. The carnival feature, consisting of candy booths, punching boards, fishing pond, fortune telling and other attractions, was very popular and did a hustling business throughout the entire evening. Another feature of the affair was the auctioning of about a dozen cakes. The bidding was keen and ail cakes brought a nice sum. The menu consisted of I barbecued meats, chicken, turkey, rice, gravy, pickles, coffee and bisi cuits. Ice-cream and cake was served throughout the evening. Everyone j seemed to enjoy the affair to the ! fullest extent. The proceeds of the ' occasion went to the local school improvement association and netted about $100. i Chat from Cades. : Cades, November 18:?Most of the farmers are through gathering ' j their cotton, and are preparing their '1 land for oats. Un Monday aiiernoon at o o ciuvk about 300 citizens of Kingstree and community were treated to an exhibition of fancy rifle and revolver shooting such as is seldom seen in this or any other community. The exhibition was given by Mr William F Hall, representing the Remington Arms Co. He was here as the guest of the Kingstree Hardware Co. Ac- J companying Mr Hall was Mr A G Coffin of Columbia, State representative of the Remington Co, whose nerve in holding teaspoons, cigarettes, matches and other small objects in his hands to be shot away by Mr Hall, was almost as daring in i the eyes of the onlookers as the' shooting by Mr Hall was remark-} able. Among the most wonderful! feats of marksmanship was the I shooting of two clay pigeons, one j held in each hand by Mr Coffin, with two revolvers held in a like manner 1 by Mr Hall and fired instantaneous-' ' ? ^ - -i 4-:? ? ! iy; anoiner was ine snuuuux ui i clay pigeon from Mr Coffin's hand , with a revolver aimed by the reflection from his finger ring and the; left lens of his spectacles, while this wizard with the revolver faced and . looked in another direction with his right eye. Personally, Mr Hall is a big-hearted, genial young gentleman, a product of the famous Shenandoah Valley, whose home is at Staunton, Va. Monday evening The Record office was favored with a visit by Messrs Hall and Coffin, and we were delighted to hear so many expressions of commendation of our people and of Kingstree by these gentlemen, who regretted that they r-u'd not re:.".:.rn longer in our midst and eniov a bird hunt with some of the local sportsmen. The above picture is an excellent likeness of Mr Hall, whose face is a clear revelation of his jovial young nature. Saved His Foot H D Ely. of Bantam, 0, suffered from horrible ulcer on his foot for four years. Doctor advised amputation, but he refused and reluctantly tried Bucklen's Arnica Salve as a last resort.
