through the mail would expedite matters

An Ordinance
To Prohibit and Detect the Unlawful
Sale, Use and Storage,
Transportation of and Traffic
in, Alcoholic Liquors and Beverages
within the Limits of the
Town of Kingstree, S C, and i
to Provide a Punishment for
theViolation of this Ordinance.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen
or the Town of Kingstree, S C,
in Council assembled and by the authority
of the same:
I. That, from and afteifthe passage
and ratification of this ordinance, all alcoholic
liquors and beverages, whether
manufactured in said town or elsewbere,
or any mixture by whatsoever name
called, which if drunk to excess will produce
intoxication,are hereby declared to
be detrimental, and their use and consumption
to be against the morals,good
health and safety of the said town and
contraband. It shall be unlawful for
any person, firm, corporation or association
within the limits of the said town
of Kingstree.S C, to manufacture, sell,
barter, exchange, receive, accept, give
away to induce trade, deliver, store,
keep in possession in said town for unlawful
purposes, furnish at public place,
or otherwise dispose of any spirituous,
malt, vinous,fermented, brewed or other
liquors or beverages, or any compound
or mixture thereof which contains alcohol
and is used as a beverage, and
which if drunk to excess will produce
intoxication,except as may be permitted
and allowed under the laws of the Stata
of South Carolina regulating the same,
and any person violating any provision
of this section shall be punisned by fine
or imprisonment hereinafter provided.
II. That any person or persons, firm,
corporation or association who shall,
within tbe limits of the town of Kingstree,
S C, offer for sale or solicit the
purchase of any of the liquors or beverages
mentioned in Section 1 of this ordinance.

whether for present or future delivery,
except as may be permitted and allowed
by and under the laws of the State of
South Carolina regulating and permitting
the same, shall be deemed guilty of
a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof,
shall be punished by fine or imprisonment
hereinafter provided.

shall be punished by fine or imprisonment
hereinafter provided for.
IV. That the unlawful sale, barter,
storage and keeping in possession within
the limits of the town of Kingstree,
S C,of any spirituous, malt,vinous, fermented.
brewed (whether lager or rice
beer) or other liquors and beverages, or
any compound or mixture thereof which
contains alcohol and is used as a beverage,
and all places whefe persons are
permitted to resort for the purpose of
drinking said alcoholic liquors or beverages
are hereby declared common nuisances.

such places shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction shall be
punished by fine or imprisonment hereinafter
provided.
V. Every person who shall, directly or
indirectly,within the limits of the town
af Kingstree, S C, keep or maintain by
himself, or by associating or combining
with others,or who shall in any manner
aid, assist or abet in keeping or maintaining
any club room or other place
within the limits of the said town, in
in which any alcoholic liquors or beverages
are received or kept for unlawful
use, barter, sale or exchange as a beverage,
or for distribution or division
among the members of any club or asi
sociation by any means whatsoever, and

company, association or corporation, or
any chartered company now in existence
or hereafter to be incorporated for
social, literary or other purposes, within
the limits of the town of Kingstree, to
buy,sell, keep for sale, store, exchange
or barter, any liquor, wine, beer, bitters
or any other intoxicatings pirits for any
purpose whatever,either to members or
to other persons, and any member or
members knowingly belonging to any
club, company, association or corporation
which receives and dispenses intoxicating
spirits or beverages contrary to
the provisions of this section, shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction shall be punished by
fine or imprisonment hereinafter provided.
VII. Any person or persons, firm,
company or association receiving, delivering
or handling contraband liquors or
beverages specified in Arricle I hereof,
for unlawful uses or purposes or intended
for unlawful uses or purposes in the
night time within the limits of the town
of Kingstree, S C, shall be guilty of
misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof
shall be punished by fine or imprisonment
hereinafter provided.

conveyance, together with horses, mules
or other animals and harness accompanying
the same, transporting intoxicating
liquors or beverages at night within
the limits of the town of Kingstree.SC,
other than regular Dassenger or freight
steamers or railroad cars, shall be liable
and subject to seizure by the officers of
the said town, and to that end such officer
or officers shall cause the same to
be duly advertised for sale for a period
of ten days, including the publication of
1 such advertisement in one issue of a
[ newspaper published in said town, and
sold before the City Hall of said town,
at public outcry to the highest binder
for cash, and the proceeds thereof shali
be paid over to the Treasurer of the
said Town for the use of the said Town.
IY. All alcoholic liquors in the possession
of any person, firm, corporation
or association within the limits of the
srid town of Kingstree, S C, for unlawful
use shalljbe seized without warrant,
and if no action to recover same is be...

such seizure, or if such action be begun
and the judgment of the Court be ad;
verse to the plaintiff, then such liquors
shall be forfeited to the town in which
the same is seized, and shall be destroyed
publicly by a policeman of said town.
Provided, however,that if a County Dispensary
shotld be located within the
town of Kingstree, S C, then such liquors
so seized shall be delivered to the
County Dispensary Board of Williamsburg
county to be disposed of by them
as they may deem best
X. Upon affidavit which maybe made
on information and belief to the effect
that contraband liquors or beverages
are being unlawfully concealed, kept or
stored within any place within the said
town of Kingstree, S C, a search warrant
may be issued by the Mayor, or in his
absence, by the Mayor pro tempore, of
the said town, empowering any officer
or any other person whom ne may duly
deputize therefor to enter the said place
by day or night and search said premises
for the purpose of locating or seizing
the said contraband liquors or beverages
therein concealed, kept or stored,
which said liquor when 30 seized shall
be disposed of as hereinbefore provided
for in Article IX for the disposition of
unlawful liquors. Provided, that no
dwelling house shall be searched in the
night time.
XI, Any person or persons detected
in the aot of violating any of the provisions
of this ordinance shall be liable
and subject to arrest without warrant:
Provided, a warrant for such person or
persons thereafter shall be procured
within a reasonable time thereafter.
XII. Any peison who dispossesses or
rescues from any policeman or other

charged with the enforcement of this
ordinance, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction thereof

XIII. Any interference by any person
with, obstruction or resistance of, or
abusive language to, any officer or any
other person of said town in the discharge
of the duties hereby enjoined, or
the use of abusive language by any
such officer or persons to any other person
or persons, shall be deemed a misdemeanor
and upon conviction thereof
shall be punished by fine or imprisonment
as hereinafter provided.
XIV. That any person or persons,

this ordinance and convicted therefor
shall be punished for each offense not
less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00)
or by imprisonment of not less than

A WONDER WITH THE GUN.
Extraordinary Performances of
Dead Sbot Bill Hall, of N C.
To a free-for-all exhibition a number
of ladies and gentlemen of North
Wilkesboro went to the fair grounds .
Saturday afternoon to see Mr W F
Hall, a son of the town of Wilson, N
C. They call "Biii" Hall, a wonddr
with firearms. To see him stand in
the arena with a gun, shoot, load
and reload, and then shoot the shot
that he does shoot makes you think
that you would rather stand behind
the dangerous end of a donkey, if it
were not for the fact that his face
looks good and his nerve is there.
He is 24 years of age, Messrs J A
Anderson and J D Barns, accompanying,
also representing a cartridge
company, the ammunition of
which they advertise/ of course.
The three are fine shots and were
asked to come here by the gunning
club. Hall,a heavy fellow,had a fascinating
way of shooting an object in
midair and immediately throwing in
the cartridge from an automatic
gun; by a snapping that tossed it >
forward he could in a flash aim and
shoot the empty shell instantly in
front of him into the bowels of the
earth with a tumultuous thud! He
shot the ashes off a cigar held by Mr.
Anderson in his mouth, and a piece
of chalk from between his fingers.
Mr Anderson carries a medal as best
shot in Richmond; Mr Hall has a
charm won at Fisherville, Va, over
the State of Virginia. Mr Hail shot
a white bean in air at second chance .

One of the men stood out in front

Hall then threw up three himself
and broke each. Next he lay the
gun on the ground behind him, tossed
three, turned round, picked it up
and successfully shattered every one.
Two objects were then thrown up,
one was shot by the gun from his
loft ehnnldor nnH the other, after
changing it to his right, before tbey
landed on the ground, from a height
of about three lengths of a man in
the air.
Next he burst two in the air, turned
360 degrees and got the
third. He, professional, a native
of North Carolina, is the champion
small object shot of the world. And
there wasn't any "endeavoring
about it." He busted things'.?

Carnival at Cades School House.
Friday, November 14, beginning
at 7 o'clock p.m., there will be held
a carnival and hot supper at the
Cades school house, Cades, S C. Besides
the usual menu of barbecued
meats,roast turkey,cranberry sauce,
hot biscuits, rice and rich gravy,
sweetmeats, fruits and hot coffee,
there will be a midway filled with
amusements that will rival anything
on Coney Island. Everybody is invited
to come to this carnival. The
proceeds will go to the local School
