pi If We Understood.
I If we knew the cares and trials
Knew the efforts all in vain
And the bitter disappointment
Understood the loss and gain?
Would the grim eternal roughness
Seem?I wonder?just the same?
Should we help where we now hinder?
Should we pity where we blame?
Ah! we judge each other harshly,
Knowing not life's hidden force;
Knowing not the fount of action
Is les3 turbid at its source;
Seeing not amid the evil
All the golden grains of good;
And we'd love each other better,
If we only understood.
Could we judge all deeds by motives
That surround each other's lives;
See the naked heart and spirit
Know what spur the action gives,
Often we should find it better,
Purer than we judge we should,
I We should love each other better,
If we only understood.

STUDENTS' EXCHANGE ESTABLISHED?A
RECEPTION-MOVING
PICTURES-PERSONAL.
(Received too late for last week's issue).
Winthrop College, Rock Hill, October
30:?A "students' exchange,"
which will be a great aid indeed in
helping the girls to earn a portion
of their college expenses, has been
recently established at Winthrop.
This is the first time we have ever
had anything of this kind here, and
we hope that it will prove to be
a great success.
Last Wednesday afternoon the
faculty, assisted by the college
marshals, nresidents of all student
organizations and the student tnembers
of the Associate Reform Presbyterian
church, gave a reception in
the parlors of the main building to
the members of the Ladies' Missionary
society of the A R P church.
President Johnson, Dr Walmsley
and Miss Brown will attend the
Southern Educational association,
which is to be he'd in Nashville,
Tenn, this week.
Dr Johnson always provides enjoyable
entertainment for the girls,
and this year he has had a moving
picture machine put in the auditorium.
Pictures, which are very
interesting and of great educational
value, are shown twice every week.
Miss Florence Mcintosh of Kingstree
has been elected to serve as
treasurer of the Rural School Improvement
association for this term.
Mrs D B Johnson gave her annual
reception to the faculty last Monday
afternoon.
Miss Alice Chandler, (who was called
to her home last Monday on hc- .
count of illness in her family, will
return tonight. We are glad to
know that Miss Chandler's sister is
so much better.
Miss Emma Cooper of Indiantown
is teaching in the Winthrop training
school this term and seems to
be enjoying her work in the primary
department very much. M H J.

Id the Arms of Jesus.
Wednesday morning. October 29,
1913,about 3 o'clock,the little life of
James Edwin, the infant son of Mr
and Mrs G E Hill, winged its way
heavenward. He was only 2 months
and ten days old.
How desolate must seem the home
this little jewel brightened for so
short a while. His mission on earth
was ended so soon, but while 'it is
lonely without him, it is sweet to
know he is "safe in the arms of jfcsus,
safe on His gentle breast."
He was laid away in the family
burying ground Thursday morning
at 11 o'clock.
We gave it to God, Who gave it to us,
This baby so weak and small;
And while we mourn, we know it went
At the Heavenly Father's call.
Although we loved it, we know it was
for the best;
We'll trust it to Him in heaven,
And praise Him for lending it to us
The short time it was given.
The home is lonely, but we smile through
our tears;
For we see through faith the dear little
one
Safe and secure in His arms,
ltp Aunt Clara.
A Night of Terror.
Few nights are more terrible than
that of a mother looking on her child
choking and gasping for breath duiing
an attack of croup ,and nothing
in the house to relieve it. Many
mothers have passed nights of terror
in this'situation. A little forethought
will enable you to avoid all
this. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy
is a certain cure for croup and has
never been known to fail. Keep it
at hand. For sale by all dealers.
There are being sold here Ranges
by other than regular dealers. We
wish to say that if we can't give you
a better Range for less money, we
will give you the Range. Before
buying, let us show you ours.
