HARDLY KNOW HER
But This Does Not Bother Mrs.
Barton, Under the
Circumstances.
Houston, Texas.?In an interesting
letter from this city, Mrs. S. C. Burton
writes as follows: "I think it is my duty
to teO you what your medicine, Cardui,
the woman's tonic, has done (or me.
1 was down sick with womanly trouble,
and my mother advised several different
treatments, but they didn't seem to do
me any good. I lingered along for three
or four months, and for three weeks, J
was in bed, so sick I couldn't bear for
any one to walk across the floor.
My husband advised me to try Cardui,
the woman's tonic. I have taken two
bottles of Cardui, am feeling fine, gained 1
15 pounds and do all of my housework.
Friends hardly know me, I am so well."
If you suffer from any of the ailments
80 common to women, don't allow the
trouble to become chronic. Begin taking
Cardui to-day. It is purely vegetable,
its ingredients acting in a gentle, natural
way on the weakened womanly constitution.
You run no risk in trying Cardui.
It has been helping weak women back to
health and strength for more than 50
years. It will help you. At all dealers.

Sketch of Hendersonville, Mob*

Editor County Record: ?1
A Southern railway conductor
said that this is a record-breaking ;

very witty, inherited no doubt from .J
Irish ancestors.had a very enjoyable
time, and if the old adage is true. *
"laughing is fattening," we should
have returned weighing many more
pounds than we started with.
At Hendersonville we boarded in Oakland
street with a friend frotd :1
Manning, and while there met many
acquaintances from Williamsburg '
and Clarendon?that, with the addition
of the cook being highly accom- '
plished in the culinary department, ' I
made our stay there very pleasant. .
Worth Carolina is certainly blessed '
with its grand scenery, and as we
pass along and view the lovely objects
before our eyes, we seem to be
lifted above self and think of the
Master Hand which had fashioned
these mountains and valleys.
At Asheville we stayed on P&ttoh
avenue. During our visit a party
arrived from Taft in their auto. We v
took a trip to Weaverville, (nine
miles distant) a nice, quiet village,
just suited for those seeking rest
and quiet: West Asheville is a ph&
perous suburb of the city and without
doubt will join that place in the
near future. Moving pictures were J
very popular and the large number * jj
of visitora^fty thousand: during the ;
sr?rs3.*iisr I
tMtea are .being introduced. .and
among those we saw were Wme taken
from Shakespeare's plays, one being
"Brutus and Gassius." A play which
drew a very full house was Dickens' ,
"Little Dorrit,"whieh portrayed the
story in a very realistic manner.
One Wednesday night we went to 3
the Christian Science church. A d
very dignified looking lady was in
the pulpit, who read portions of the
Bible and also from the writings of \
Mrs Eddy. Several persons stood
and testified to the healing power '
of Christian Science. We had the
privilege of being present at the >
dedication of the new Episcopal
church, just built on the site of the
one burned several years ago. The
young Mr Brown was installed as .
nastor bv BishoD Hornet of North ^
Carolina, and many other ministiefc
joined in the ceremonies of the occasion.
Rev Mr Brown is from Tfcrboro,
NT C, and the Episcopalians of
AsheVille are fortunate to have such
a talented and devoted Christian as
their pastor. The Episcopal church
at Biltmore, in which Air Vanderbilt
takes great interest, has a fine choir,
and crowds come from Asheville
Sunday afternoons to hear the mthsic.
All the expenses of the church
are paid by Mr Vanderbilt. In going
through the estate we reached
the dairy as the cowa were belnff
milked, one hundred and ten at that <
time.by some of the employees dressed
in white. Some of the milk is
separated to be made into ice-cream,
and the rest is put into bottles, sealed
and carried in auto wagons
throughout Biltmore and Asheville,
and it is very rich and absolutely
clean. Great quantities of vegetables
are raised in the gardens, among
them very large beds of rhubarb /
plants, which seem to be used extensively
in making pies.
On reaching Black Mountain and
getting into a hack we were soon on
our way to Montreat. Arriving at
thej gate, the man collected the toll,
which is used for the necessary expenses
of the place, such as iights,
keeping the roads in repair," etc.
Like all other summer resorts, the
hotels and boarding houses were
crowd 1 The auditorium is midway
between the two hotels, and in
front is a pretty lake on which the
young people enjoy tnemseives in
row-boats. The auditorium was
built to hold fifteen hundred people,
but sometimes more than that many
met there to listen to the delightful
addresses from eminent speakers.
One of these, Rev James Bryan of
Birmingham, Ala, was born and
partly brought up in Williamsburg,
and the writer knew him as a boy.
He is an earnest Christian and does
