The frust has killed the vegetation
but not the mosquito. That
venomous pest is as numerous as
ever, especially around that socalled
"aseptic tank."
Misses Maude and Nettie Shirer
of Gourdins and Miss Mary Harshaw,
the popular teacher of
Gourdins Graded school,J were in
town shopping Saturday.
^ Miss Maria Stutts, who has been
visiting relatives at Scranton, returned
home Tuesday, accompanied
by her aunt, Mrs M B Arms, who
will spend some time with relatives
here.
We were favored with a visit
Tuesday from our old friend, Mr W
W Burrows of Leo. He has been
quite unwell for some time past, he

The worst enemy a newspaper can
have is a dead-head subscriber. Persons
too poor or too dishonest or too
unappreciative to pay the small
amount of subscription charged for

Miss R B Jordan, the accomplish- {
ed and efficient book-keeper and ste- ,
nographer of Mr J W Truett, Nor- 1
folk, Va, was in Kingstree last week
auditing accounts and inaugurating
a new accounting system for Mr 0 ;
P Grant, taanager of Mr Truettrs
railway and timber interests at this
place. Miss Jordan was accompanied
by her brother, who is now
located here as a time keeper for
Mr Truett.
C F Harradan's vaudeville show
opened here Monday evening and is
entertaining good audiences nightly
this week under their tent on South
Academy street. This was former
ly the James Adams show and visited
Kingstree six or seven years ago.
The company is composed of gentlemen
and ladies and their entertainments
are good, clean and refined.
One of the most interesting features
of the performance is the nightly
appearance on the stage of pretty
little Miss Cleo Hamilton, less than '
five years old, playing her parts in
a manner that endears her to the /
audience. The show will be here all ^
this week. *
The Pilgrim Girls, composed of
Misses Hanna Gove, Mara Conover,
Lillian Griffin, Letetia, Marjorie and
Terese Record, gave a high class r
entertainment at the school audi- t
torium here last night to an audi- f
ence of about 250 people. The at- f
traction was the opening number of 3
the lyceum course recently arranged t
for by Mr J Heyward Scott and c
wa3 one of the best entertainments
ever given in ' Kingstree. Under <
the leadership of Miss Gove each s
member of the company is clever,
versatile and beyond doubt an accomplished
musician. The next T
feature of the course will be the
Alkahest Artists which will appear
here early in November.

the bride's pastor, performed the \
ceremony which,was witnessed by a i
large gathering of friends and rela- i
tives of the contracting parties. .

The groom is a son of Mr and Mrs *
R E Burgess of Mouzon, and for t
several years past has been employ- ]
ed as a Pullman conductor, with '
headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. He is |
a brother to Mrs R D Mills and Miss
Retha Burgess of Kingstree. i
The bride is a charming young
lady of the Mouzon section and is
deservedly popular among a host of
friends and relatives.
Mie happy couple left Kingstree
on train 89 last night for the South,
bearing with them the congratulations
and best wishes of a host of
friends.
