XXX i A suit for false arrest was filed in the United States District Court yesterday by counsel for L W Sizer, , against W R Barringer, proprietor, and J W Heape, manager, of the Hotel Florence, at Florence. The complaint cites two grounds of action and asks damages in the sum of $10,000 on each ground. One is false arrest and the other is humili, ation and public disgrace. XXX Mayor John P Grace of Charleston yerterday personally presented to Speaker Clark,|of the House of Rep resentatives.a petition asking for an investigation of the right of uongressman Richard S Whaley to his } seat, and making sweeping charges against Mr Whaley in connection with his nomination last spring and his expense statement to the clerk of t the House. Among other things Mayor Grace charges that Mr Whaley spent $60,000, or $55,000.more , to win the election than he reported in his expense account to the clerk ? of the House.
