At no time of the year should peo pie be more careful of the condition of their bowels than in hot weather. Many things may cause constipation in summer, but whatever it may be the trouble should be promptly remedied. A constipated person lays himself or herself open to serious and often fatal diseases. That feeling of congestion, lassitude or dull headache is the first warning of trouble. Don't try to remedy it by the excessive eating of fruk, which usually has a laxative effect but lacks action in extreme cases. What is needed is a reliable but mild laxative-tonic like Dr Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin. Take a Jose of it at night before retiringit is pleasant-tasting and free from ?riping?and by morning your bow?ls will be emptied and your head clear. You will feel energetic again. You cannot obtain such results with cathartics, purgatives, salts or pills, is,unlike Dr Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin, :hey are without tonic value and entirely too harsh. Among the thou lands of dependable converts to Syrup Pepsin are the families of Mr F C Harris, Live Oak, Fla, who now finds ICE WAGON SCALES. Every Wagon Most Have Standard Weighing Device. All ice wagons in South Carolina nust be equipped with standard scales, according to an order issued recently by the State department of agriculture. A ff voiveu hi me Lraiisacuun. The following is the order of the department: "This is to notify you that on and after this date inspectors of this department. acting in accordance with the provisions of the laws of this State, will, without further notice, from time to time carefully examine and test, for sealing or rejection, all jcales on delivery wagons from which deliveries of ice to consumers are made. All scales used on wagons will be examined and sealed, when found correct, by inspectors of this department. Weights of ice shall be by these standards just what they are represented to be when the pur chaser pays for the goods; otherwise, :he purchaser reweighing the commodity delivered, upon a seal scale n his own possession, may report ;he discrepancy to this department ind proceedings will be instituted ooking to the imposition of the penalties of the law. Upon conviction :he offender shall be fined not less :han $5 nor more than $50 for each iffense. This special notice is issued :o you because of complaint reading this department from consumers :hnt deliveries are being made from .vagons by negro drivers without ?ven the pretense of weighing the ce involved in the transaction."? Thousands of people testify that Doan's Kidney Pills have brought lasting results. Grateful endorsements should prove undoubtedly the merits of this remedy. Years ago people right in this locality testified to the relief they lad derived from the use of Doan's Kidney Pills. They now confirm their testimonials. They say that time has completed the test. I have had no need Df a kidney medicine since, as the benefit I got has been permanent. My back ached a great deal and I bad sharp, shooting pains through my loins. Story of the Crime of which He Was Convicted. The Governor of the State has paroled Webb Simmons, a white man who shot and killed Bert McAdams, a constable from the Sheriff's office in the Orr mill village at Anderson about three years ago. It is said that on the afternoon of the tragedy Simmons, while in a drunken condition, displayed a shotgun on a street in the mill village, bringing terror to the residents. Constable McAdams was summoned and he approached Simmons, trying to pacify him. As he walked toward Simmons, the drunken man lifted his gun, aimed at McAdams and pulled the trigger. McAdams fell dead to the ground. Simmons was convicted of murder in the first degree and was sentenced ^ F1 "U./MiDAma fa/lk. tu uc uaugtru. iiiiuugu ouiuv. wi.ilnicality he secured a new trial, at which he was convicted, but recorai mended to the mercy of the court, thereby securing a life sentence. Now, after three years he is a free man. Surely law in this State has ' , been made a mockery by Cole Blease. We cannot but wonder what the people of the Orr mill village in Anderson, people whom Constable McAdams gave up his life in an effort to protect, think of this latest action on the part of Blease, the man whom they have supported so loyally in the past and who boasts that he is their friend. Do they approve of the parole? Are they willing that the mur derer of the man who was killed while trying to protect them shall go practically unpunished.?Greenville Piedmont. Tbe Best Palo Killer. When a man has suffered several days with colic, diarrhoea or other form of bowel complaint and is then cured sound and well by one or two doses of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy, as is often the case, it is but natural that he should be enthusiastic in his praise of the remedy, and especially is this the case of a severe attack when life is threatened. Try it when in need of such a remedy. It never fails. Sold by all dealers adv. H I
