the Florence Chamber of Commerce
was invited there to talk to the
Board of Trade of that city on
the subject. They had a great
meeting, as was recounted at that
time in the news columns of The
Times. Mr Morgan gave them
such goo<l hints that they promptly
adopted them and worked them
faithfully, and the town of Kingstree
1ms never enjoyed such a
time of trade prosperity. The

shot and instantly killed a 0-year-old
negro girl at Alt Willing, in Saluda
county. Friday afternoon, August 1.
The boy disappeared after the shooting
and at last accounts had not been

John Shake, a negro burglar who
shot and critically wounded J F
Hammock, a merchant of Dunbar,
near Macon, Ga, was captured Sunday
night in a swamp by a posse,
which after taking him back to Dunbar,
strung him up to a pole in the
heart of a negro settlement and riddled
his body with bullets.

Two persons were killed and 58
injured when a west-bound Lancaster
and Chester train was wrecked
Wednesday July 30, at 5 o'clock, at
Hoorer's creek, seven miles from
Chester. The passenger coaches of
the "mixed" train fell 50 feet into
the creek below the bridge, piling
upon one another, the locomotive
and freight cars getting over safely.
