. BALMY BREEZES BLOWN FROM BENSON, WHAT PEOPLE OF A LIVE COM MUMIY AKL SAIinu AND DOING. Benson, August 3:^The constitu ents of the Benson baseball team, formerly the "Reds'' and the "Blues",are of a progressive nature and therefore are increasing greatly in number. This increase, together with a spirit of rivalry, suggested the making of another play-ground? or diamond, Number 2. Number I ia on the west side of Cedar Swamp aid Number 2 on the east side. Only two weeks have elapsed since the division, yet the enthusiastic fans and i o.thers enjoyed a match jrame Satur- i day en diamond Number 1. The j m itch pame fever was at a white < heat when Nos.l and 2 crossed bats, j but with R Cantley in the box for i Number 2 and A Howard behind the j bat, with the assistance of a shower i of rain, they rec. ced the tempera- | ture of No.l to the tune of a 6 to 16 < score. His principal j thought was directed to the voting j on the dispensary questibn. He j took the statement of the Attorney- ; ^ General of the State of Kansas, which < has been under prohibition for thir- ] ty years, where they have wealth, i very few prisoners,a limited number ,< of lunatics, paupers and imbeciles; < whereas, by comparison, our State i shows prison houses full, crimes in- | numerable and the asylum filled to < overflowing:. He depicted the blind | p tigers and the purchasers from them ] as the lowest and dirtiest of all deal- < * ers in liquor. But their sales, by j actual figures, could not compare with those of the dispensary. WES. 8 In Re Dispensary Question. y I Editor County Record:? i I Kinjjstree, June 16:?Discussion y | on tn# dispensary quesuuu id I j* quiet here, although a petition, signI ed by more than the required one- l S third voters, has been forwarded to , I the Governor with a request that he order an election on the question of I a dispensary or no dispensary to be I operated at Kingstree. Until recent0a ly the blind tiger business was so flourishing here that a number of 1 the townspeople, who voted against a* the dispensary three years ago, believe now that it will be a great re- j lief, and have not only signed the j t petition for an election, but openly ( signified their intention of support- r ing the dispensary question at the ( polls when the election is held in j August. ( I was very much surprised to see t the above in the News and Courier, some time past. Citizens of Wil- * liamsburg county, think seriously j before voting in favor of a dispen- j sary back in Kingstree. You have s gotten rid of it and it will surely be i sooner or later to your sorrow if you ' do not help to stay rid of it. What | does it mean? It means that many r q imnr.or man who would otherwise r w J WVk"0 ? never touch liquor, will go to a drunkard'sgrave. It means that you who r have sons are inviting and encourag- 't ing them to drink. Men, let your ? consciences work before and not af- i ter the election. Why did God give J you these precious sons and daugh- : ters? It is not every married couple s who are so blest. f g What is more pitiable, more ridic- ti * THE BEST HOT WEA1 IMF'S T4 WHV I h V The Old Standard, General Enriches the Blood and Bui FOR GROWN PEOPL It is a combination of QUININE and ] fully strengthens and fortifies the systen the hot summer. A True1 Strengthened Guaranteed by your Dru i ulous an?l less to be excused than a irunken man or woman? Yes, woman! Why should she not hav& the same right? The person writing the' above piece for the News and Cour,er seems to try to picture the dispensary so much better than the blind liger, just as if we were compelled :o have blind tigers. Who are responsible for the blind tigers? What io they mean? They mean poor ofneers and weak men. A blind tiger s a law-breaker, and should be punished. But even they are not so tempting or inviting to our young men and boys as the dispensary. Some of you may answer that the boys are not allowed to buy whiskey from a dispensary. I am sorry to say that there are older ones whom they may only ask to buy it for them. Think and decide, citizens of Williamsburg and other counties. When you see a person under the influence of strong drink from a blind tiger do you feel responsible? If you vote in favor of the dispensary and see a person under its influence will you then feel responsible? Will you? It may be your own loved one, who would not have touched it, but for the sight of it ever near. Merchants, think of the dollars a dispensary will take from you, many a dollar that would otherwise go to pou will go for drink. Some men will spend their dollar for drink if their poor wires and children have to suffer for the want of food and closing. Will you help to make it easy for them to get drink? Which will pou decide? You who have sons and daughters to raise, will you say put liquor in their midst to so tempt them? Only a short while since one jweet little wife and mother remarKid to the writer: "My husband has aot drank whikey for four years; how I hope they will not bring the dispensary back to so tempt him. He has been like a different man since he quit drink." Will you help to destroy the happiness of this and a jreat many other homes? Perhaps pour own. Decide, friends, what you will do, md vote according in August. Will pou say, bring the dispensary and let ny children be drunkards if they vish? You will surely regret it when t is too late. Editor County Record: I have read the articles which have been published in The Record for the past few weeks concerning the coming dispensary election. These articles have been strengthening to my faith in praying that God would deliver us from this threaten ed danger of having whisky selling again a legalized business in Williamsburg. This suggests to me that perhaps I may be able to help some others by telling them that I, too, belong to that circle who pray daily that all Christians may vote against this wrong and [that it may be defeated. I do not want my boy to grow to manhood in a community where it is treated as a respectable business. In my Bible study this morning I came across this passage: "Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees." Will not this woe apply to everyone who by his vote legalizes this curse of whisky selling? Yes,indeed, and, fathers, re member it will apply not alone to you but to your children. In time to come, when you have passed on to render to God an account of your actions while here, your children will be left behind to reap the fruits of your present sowing. All I ask of you is that you seek guidance from God as to whether you vote for the dispensary or against it. There is not a man in this county who expects to vote for it who can honestly say he has asked for God's guidance in the matter and is sure it is God's will for him to vote for it. Friends, will you not stop long enougn to consider: One Interested. Glenn Springs, July 27. Costly Treatment. "I was troubled with constipation and indigestion and spent hundreds of dollars for medicine and treatment," writes C H Hines of Whitlow, Ark.
