Mrs William Willis Boddie, who
has been visitinpr her parents, Dr
and Mrs D C Scott, returned to her
home at Louisburg, N C, Friday.
Mr and Mrs S K Brockington and
son, S K, Jr, of Florence spent this
week with Mrs Brockington's mother,
Mrs A M Gordon, who is still
quite ill.
Train 83 was detained about 15
minutes Sunday morning just above
the trestle here, caused by an accident
to one of the driving-rods of
the engine.
The Cades Mercantile Co, have a
change of ad on first page of this issue
calling attention of the public to
some liberal offerings they are making
customers.
Mrs Nester McFall and daughter,
Miss Ora.of Pickens have been guests
of Mr and Mrs N D Lesesne the
past week. Mrs McFall returned
home yesterday.
Rev and Mrs W P Meadors of
Greenwood are visiting their daughter,
Mrs A C Hinds. Mr Meadors
was formerly presiding elder of,
Klngstree district. \
Mr J W Truitt of Norfolk, Va,
who has extensive timber interests
in this vicinity with a shipping station
just above town, was in Kingstree
Sunday and Monday.
We again return thanks to our colored
friend, Mac Hammond, for a
handsome mess of cabbage. These
succulent esculents were in keeping
with the high quality of garden vegetables
produced by this expert gard
enerand were much enjoved.
Tom Moran and Silas Burton, two
bad negroes from the Andrews section,
are in jail here for shooting up
and chasing a passenger from a G &
W train near Morrisville last week.
The charge against them is assault
and battery with intent to kill.

Kinestree and fowler, has left
Kingstree and returned to Norfolk,
being relieved on the work here by

with a capital of $4,000, the officers

with a capital of $3,000, the

Harper Swinton, a negro of the
Trio section, was sent to the chaingang
today to serve 120 days?30
days on each of four indictments to
which he plead guilty before Justice
Camlin. The charges were,carrying
concealed weapon, drunk and disorderly,
refusing to pay fare for riding
on G & W train and resisting
arrest. The darkey was evidently
crazed by bad booze, and now seems
to take his medicine philosophically.
With a great deal of pleasure the
editor renders grateful acknowledgements
to Union High school for a
basketful of vegetables of super-excellent
quality. The head of cabbage
weighed 5 J pounds, the radishes
were as pretty as palatable and
the garden peas perfect specimens
of the gardener's art. These fine
vegetables were grown in the horti
cultural department of Union High
school at Rome, under the direction
of Miss Florence Stubbs. who is an
enthusiast in her work and achieves
results in all lines.

Presbyterianism in North Carolina
and composed one of our beautiful
Christmas hyms, "While Shepherds
Watch Their Flocks by Night." extensively
used in sacred song books,

of Dr Wilson McKay of Sumter,who
is well known here, and an uncle of
Mrs R J McCabe of this place.
Miss Louise F Shield, of Indiana,
with headquarters in Georgia,where
she is secretary of the Y W C A of
that State, spent the week-end here
with Mr and Mrs Hugh McCutchen.
Miss Shields came here to trace her
ancestry, and upon visiting the Indiantown
section she found that her
great-great-grandfather was the late
Thos McCutchen of Indiantown and
that her paternal great-grandmother
was a daughter of the gallant Robt
McCottry,of Marion's brigade in the
Revolutionary war. Miss Shields is
looking up her ancestry in order that
she may be eligible to membership
in the Daughters of the Revolution,
Montgomery-Epps.
At 8 o'clock yesterday evening at
the residence of the bride's mother,
Miss Odessa Montgomery was very
quietly united in marriage to Mr
Gilbert Epps by Rev P S McChesney.
The bride is a daughter of the late Mr
M S Montgomery and is one of Kingstree's
most popular and charming
young ladies. The groom is a former
Williamsburg boy, but for some

ness at Asheville, N C.
The happy couple left on train 89
for Charleston last night, from there
they will go to Asheville,where they
will reside in future. This'deservedly
popular young couple have the
best wishes of a wide circle of friends
and acquaintances for a long and
happy life of connubial bliss.
