More Than MO People Killed, 400 Injmred, Property Loss $5,000,000. Omaha, Neb, March 24:?More |han 200 persons were killed and 400 were injured in a wind storm that demolished 450 homes, damaged hundreds of other buildings and caused a monetary loss of $5,000,000, according to reports available up to a late hour tonight from the main path of the tornado in and near Omaha. Most of the casualties were in Omaha. Nearby^ towns in Nebraska and across the Missouri river in Iowa also suffered severely. Wires were B snapped off in all directions and it I took many hours to gather and cir-! Bculate news of the disaster. Hp Fire broke out in the debris of Emany wrecked buildings in the NeI braska metropolis and these were B menaces for some time, as the fire r companies were hindered by fallen L v^ls and blockaded streets. From all indications this section, both town and surrounding country, is exceedingly interested in a mutual effort to promote the business interests, as well as to give impetus to the agricultural interests. Mr Morgan, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of Florence, was in attendance and delivered a very entertaining and instructive address on the benefits that mav accrue from the united efforts in this direction. A board of directors, composed of seven men of extraordinary qualifications, was elected and authorized to supervise the further forming of the organization. This is, from all nnnparances. an effort*in the right| ? ' ' , direction and the slogan of this entire section will be henceforth: "Watch Lake City Grow!" Much anxiety is felt in this community this morning over the apparent fate of Melvin Nexsen, son of Mr John M Nexsen, a prominent farmer and merchant 4 miles east of town. Mr xNexsen left home ruesaay to pay a visit to one of his relatives, some miles below his father's place, and upon his failure to return Wednesday his father sent out to see why his stay was being prolonged and it developed that he was thought to have returned home. A searching party was then organized, and his horse was found drowned in Black river, near Stewart's landing, with the buggy hitched to it. Great fears are entertained that young Mr Nexsen was also drowned. ^ Near the place where the horse was found is a landing often freauented bv fishermen, especially for shad, at this season of the year, and it is thought the young man, if he j The Beet Ti i [ Let no one think his ' i have* passed.
