HOW TO SPEND MY DAYS
In the Year 1913 Better than I Did
in the Year 1912.
This the year of 1913, 3G5 days,
each containing 12 golden hours set
# with 6b diamond minutes. The most'
of them I'm going to make good use j

While at school I'm going to be '
obedient to my teacher and give her,
as little trouble as possible. I'm go-j
ing to be kind to my schoolmates,!
helping them in any way I can, I am j
going to prepare my lessons at home j
and practice my music every chance j
I get so that I may improve and the
money spent for it will not be use-;
, lessly spent. When school is out j
I'm not going to sj>end vacation in,
idleness: 1 am going to study some j
and read some good books. it is
better for the mind to wear out than
to rust out." I am going to sew on
my lost buttons and darn my own
tears, so that mother or sister will
not have it to do. I am going to help
raise chickens and other poultry,
plant and raise vegetables for the
table, plant and cultivate flowers,for
they make home so much brighter.
Later, I am going to help with the
canning and putting up of vegetables,
preserves and jellies, so we can
have them for lunch when school
starts again. I am going to help
cook and milk the cows, and do anything
that comes to hand, not be- j
cause I have to, but because l lute to.
I am going to church as often as I
can and I am going to prepare my
Sunday-school lessons well and get
all out of them that I can. I am going
to pay strict attention to the
preacher, so that 1 can tell other
folks that do not go to church what
he says, that they may get the benefit
of it as well as myself. When
Labor day comes for the orphanages
I am going to work for some one
and get money to help the little orphans.
If I have a holiday off and I
go to spend the day with a friend I'm

day, and try to make others do the
same. I' I hear of some one being1
sick I am going to try to visit them
and take some flowers or something
to try and cheer them up. When
vacation is over I am going back to
school again to welcome my teachers
and many, many things that will
make me more useful than I have
been before.

and be better in every respect. Every
child should be more obedient to
their teacher, more thankful and
kind to their friends, also more obedient
and loving to their parents; always
try to be happy and make everyone
happy we can. *
On Sunday we should go to church
and listen attentively to what the
minister says. Always try and know
our Sunday-school lessons as we can
learn something new and good if we
study. We should speak more kindly
to everybody and not keep an
evil against anyone nor speak evil of
them. Try and give up our own
pleasures, if it will make some one
else happy. Next, we should go to

as everyone should try and get an
education. Children should always
begin school the first day, go neat
and tidy. We should always get up
soon so as to get out in the fresh air,
as it helps us to feel better and be
more healthy. Always try to make
the best of each day as it comes to
us and do some deed of kindness to
seme one around us or away. We
should also try and know our lessons
better every day, and try not to be
tardy and always behave well. We
should read good,helpful books,think
kind thoughts and not use any profane
language; think before we speak,
never tell things we hear unless we
know it to be the truth.
When our friends are in trouble
we should give them all the help we
can. We should never say anything
to hurt any one's feelings. Always
try and do unto others as we wish to
be done by them. We should also
be kind to dumb animals and not
kill innocent birds.
As the poet wisely says:
Look not mournfully into the past,
It comes not back again,
Wisely improve the present,
it is tnine.

church I will not stand out on the
church yard when services are going
on. I am in my seat in the front of
the church. I try to get all out of
Sunday-school and preaching that I
can. I want to live so that I
can lead others out of darkness into
light. 1 am going to try to he kinder
to my sisters and brothers than I
ever have before. I am going to
obey my parents better than I ever
have before. I am going to ask God

on earth and I think that he will help

We who have plenty could make a
little sacrifice for those that are less
fortunate and not be selfish with
what we have. Many things we haw
bought because we saw and wanted
them, not because we needed them.
And probably that money would have
made some one happy which was in
need. It is not the presents one receives
that mane her happy,but it is
the number of people that we have
made happy; for if we give nice
presents to those who have plenty
and none to those in need, it would
not make us as happy as we would
be if we give to those in need. So it
is better to give than to receive.
I think that on school days we
should go to school and learn our
lessons well. We should be very
good in school and try not make
trouble for anybody. If we wanl
to be loved and have a good manj
friends we should always be bright
and cheerful, and be kind to everybody.
On Sunday we should go to church
and listen to what the preacher says
In the afternoon we should read Sunday-school
papers and some stories
from God's own holy words. Do oui
duty towards our parents, and, first
of all, to God. Say your prayers every
night and morning and trust ir
God only to help us through. So, I
am going to try to help make every
body happy, be a better sister anc

I think the happiest days can be
spent in the year of 1913 by going
to school and studying hard to make
your grade during the year. I studj

school closes. It is the greatest o!
pleasures to me to go to school the
last day and get my report saying 1
am promoted to the next grade. It
makes my heart jump for joy. 1
have seen children go to school and
do not study their lessons, and when
they are not promoted to the nexl
grade they get rpad and say the
teacher has cheated them, but that
is not the way, you cannot be promoted
without studying hard for it.

year of my life. I shall study hard
and learn my lessons so when I go to
school I can go looking happy, and

every day at school to study and during
this time I am going to study

day. In the evening after school I
am going to study my lessons and
when I get through I am going to
do my work,if I have any. If I get

anyone drops anything I wiil pick it
up for them, or if anyone gets hurt

early and study my Sunday-school
lesson and when Sunday-school takes
in I am going to pay close attention
to my teacher. After Sunday-school
I am going to church and listen to

the Kingstree Graded school.
