Music Rendered.

Trio, December 20:?An entertainment
was given at the Earle
school on Friday night, December 13.
The programme consisted of two
plays: "The Sniggles Family" and
"The Baby Show at Skilletville",with
vceal solos and instrumental music.
The large girls in school took part
in "The Sniggles Family" and the
large boys dressed as ladies presented
"The Baby Show at Skilletville."
This baby contest was a very amusing
feature of the evening.
This week the first term examinations
were held and a Christmas programme
was prepared for the Earle
Literary society, which met Friday
afternoon. The society officers are:
President, Connie Thomson; vicepresident,
Alfred Thomson; secretary,
Ida Wilson; critic, Clifford Par
sons.
Some new books are needed for
the school library. Contributions in
books or funds would be appreciated
from anyone interested in the school.
Mr L A Parsons has contriouted
material for curtains needed in the
school building.

home from their respective colleges
; to spend the Xmas holidays.

Mrs Geo Lee, now of Atlanta, arrived
here Monday for the holidays.
Among the many visitors here
Monday was Mr Albert Ward. He
had the usual smile. Mr F L Singletary
of Effingham was also in town.
MrsC H Pate left Monday for
Bishopville to spend the Xmas holidays
with Dr Pate's father. The
Doctor will go Wednesday.
Miss Alma Singletary will go today
to spend the Xmas holidays at
the home of her brother, Mr E E
Singletary, at Cowards.
We are glad to report that Rev J
W Bailey and little Ruth, who have
been quite sick, are much improved.
Scran ton was given a rare treat'
Friday evening last when the Lively
Boys Minstrel company gave an exhibition
at the school auditorium. It v
was enjoyed by all, if the players did
get off a few jokes on the audience.

The boys made a "hit", sure. The
compaay regrets having been unable
to fill engagements at Nesmith and
Indiantown last week. It was not
known in time to cancel the engagements.

Misses Daisy Pate and Clark,
of the Prospect school, spent Fridly
i night at the home of Dr C H Pate,

I Bishopville Saturday,and Miss Clark
i went to Kingstree to spend Xmas.
Foundations are being laid for the
erection of a beautiful Baptist*
church here. The old church has
been slid from its late location,which \
will be the site of the new edifice.
It will be a frame structure.
Contract has been let for the
erection of a new school building
here. The trustees found the present
one inadequate to accommodate
the pupils, who now number 110.
The work was begun last year but
was not carried out. However,
j work will soon begin, for the building
is to be completed by the middle
of July, we understand. A twoacre
lot at the foot of Pearl street
; has been purchased for the site,

Anderson going to Timmonsville,
Miss Peak to Edgefield, Miss Hayes
to Dillon, Miss Hook having gone to
her home, Irmo, a month ago on
