Richmond, Va, November 18:?A
new trial today waa refused for
Floyd Allen and his son,Claud Swanson
Allen, by the supreme court of
Virginia. The men are condemned
to aie in tne eiectnc cnair next r iay
for the murder of officials of
the Carroll county court at Hillsi
rille on March 14. Floyd
Allen was convicted on May

Commonwealth Attorney William
Foster. Allen's son, tried on the
iharge of killing Judge Thornton L
Massie, was convicted and sentenced
to fifteen years in the penitentiary.
A second trial on an indictment for
the killing of Attorney Foster resulted
in a conviction of murder in
the first degree on July 27.
It is believed that Governor Mann
will not interfere with the execution

tersely today, had been pending for
wme time,but Virginia officials have
proceeded with arrangements for

;hat no clemency would be shown.
It is believed, however, that the ,
jovernor will grant a respite for

taught. This education is givea entirely
free to deserving orphans of*
any denomination and from any
part of our country. Nearly a thousand
youths have been under its in- fluence
and enjoyed its training..
The provision for the support, education
and other expenses of these
children (265 now with us) is derived
from personal donations of interested
persons or from church and
Sunday-school collections.
The Thornwell OrpKmge is located
at Clinton,S C, at the crossing
of the Seaboard Air Line and Atlantic
Coast Line railways. It is under
Presbyterian influence and control
but does not refuse aid to any on
account of religious differences. No
surrender of children to its guardianship
is required of relatives. Pupils
may leave of their own choice
if they do not wish to remain. Children
are not given out to service.
The only business of the institution
is to teach and train them. The orphans'
interest is the first consideration.
The presiding head of the
*
orphanage is Rev William P Jacobs,
who receives gifts for the support
and applications for the admission
of pupils.
