J \ TO PRESENT PRESIDENT-ELECT His Boyhood Home at Colombia for a "Winter" Residence. Columbia, November 10:?A committpp of ritizpns left here this af ternoon for Princeton, to lay before President-elect Woodrow Wilson the wish of the people of Columbia that be make this his "winter" residence. As part of what the Columbia people offer, the committee will tell Governor Wilson that his boyhood home, on Hampton street, has been jbtained and will be presented to him if he will come here. He can reside in the house of his youth, enieared to him by recollections of lis early days. \ r The committee representing the ritizens, consisting of Capt W E Gonsales, Mayor W H Gibbes, Dr S C Mitchell, president of the University if South Carolina; State Superintendent of Education J E Swearingen *nd Mr James Woodrow, a cousin of Governor Wilson, left here tonight aver the Seaboard for Princeton. They telegraphed to New York for Messrs E W Robertson, W D Melton and August Kohn, who are there on business,to join them at the home^of Governor Wilson tomorrow, to urge '' \ Columbia's claims upon him. ' As stated, the people of Columbia have secured an option on the boyhood home of President-elect Wilson, where his father lived while in Columbia, and will purchase and present this to him if he makes this hi? "winter" residence. - a?- ? 1 O rms nome is a typical ouuiuciu cottage and stands in a beautiful yard in one of the most desirable residential sections of the city and l just opposite the Colonia hotel, where ample accommodatipns could be found for the army of newspaper correspondents and officials who would accompany the President. It is three blocks away from the home of Mrs Felicia B Woodrow, the favorite aunt of the President- ^ e'ect. There is every reason to believe that the proposal to make this his "winter" home will be received with l." Oovomrtr Wil<ann_ TKii lavui vjj uv?v.iiiw? idea was advanced when the New Jersey Governor was here as the guest of the South Carolina Press association, by President August Kohn.who.at that early date, prophesied Governor Wilson's elevation to the Presidency of the United States; he said then that Governor , Wilson had intimated that if his prophecy came true he might make Columbia his "winter" residence. Immediately after his election to the Presidency last Tuesday, the people of Columbia set about to make this a reality. They secured an option on his boyhood home and sent the strongest committee possible to Princeton to lay the matter before him. ( The strongest argument to be presented to Governor Wilson is, of course, sentiment, but Columbia is an ideal place for the "winter capital" of the United States. Its climate is delightful and it is easily accessible to every part of the country. President-elect Wilson has many kin people here and many friends, and it is believed that Columbia has a good chance of securng his consent to' make his "win?r" home here. An effort will be nade to have him commence making ;his his "winter" home here right :his coming winter. The result of the :ommittee's efforts will be awaited vith much interest by the people of he whole citv and State. k Great Building Falls vhen its foundation is undermined, md if the foundation of health? rood digestion?is attacked, quick :ollapse follows.
