W P Bailey, a young white man
of Gaffney, shot himself through the
body with a pistol Monday. Attempted
suicide is suspected as the
young man had several times threat|
ened to take his own life. His re1
covery is doubtful.

j Judge A W Fite of the Cherokee
I circuit court of Georgia, was found
guilty of contempt by the State,
court of appeals and fined $5,000
with the option of ten days' imprisonment.
Judge Fite's offense was
writing a newspaper article criticising
the court of appeals for twice
reversing his decision sentencing a
negro to twenty years' imprisonment
for criminally assaulting a
white woman. Judge Fite's coun:
sel, T C Milner, shortly after pre!
senting his case before the court
dropped dead.

Saturday morning John Haugh
j killed his father-in-law, R K West,
by beating him to death with the
butt-end of a shot-gun. Haugh was
beating his wife when West interfered.
This infuriated Haugh, who
turned from his wife and attacked
' her father. The affair occured at
Haugh's home, in the eastern part
i of Kershaw county. Feeling is so
bitter against Haugh that he was
taken to the penitentiary for safekeeping.

The Superintendent of Education
will have a sufficient number of
monthly report blanks to supply all
white schools for the common school
grades. Teachers will apply to the
Superintendent of Education or at
Mr John Brown's store, stating the
number of pupils below the eighth
grade.

Dr Robert Wilson of Charleston J
filled his pulpit at St Alban's chapel,
Episcopal, for the first time since j
July 7, when he was given a vacation.
Regular services were held at the
Baptist church, conducted by the
pastor, Rev W E Hurt.
Morning and evening services
were held at the Methodist church,
and the doors of the church were
opened to those who wished to become
members. Several were re-!
ceived into the fellowship of the
church. The evening service marked 1
the conclusion of the revival which
had been going on for two weeks.
