HEMINGWAY HAPPENINGS.
A. F. M. Lodge Hall Destroyed
Personal and Social Notes.
Hemingway, October 7: ? The
weather has been good for cotton
picking during the past week, and
the fanners of this section are sure
lv taking advantage of it.
We are sorry to learn that Mr
John Hughes, who lives about two
miles from here, lost his kitchen by
fire one night last week.
In harmony with the other newthings
of Hemingway, Mr Arthur
Altman has a new daughter at his
home.
The Masonic hall of Indian town
lodge was destroyed about two
weeks ago by fire; the members of
the lodge held a called meeting Saturday
night and it is said that their
new hall will be on the third fioor of
the store of Messrs W C Hemingway
& Co, of this place. This lodge
held its meetings here a number of
years ago, but it was in the old
building then used for a store,
which has since been torn down.
Messrs Henry, Ben and Clarence
Mercer, three skilled carpenters of
Sarr.pit who have been working with
Mr Manly Poston here, have gone
home for a few days.
We are glad to note that the
chaingang is now in this section, for
the roads around here surely need
work.
r. ' ;
We have a new depot agent here
now, Mr Salters of Salters.
Mr Huggins, of the firm of W C
Hemingway & Co, has moved into
his new home on Main street.
Bethel Breezes.
Bethel, October 7:?Messrs R S
and Bishop Burgess spent last Sunday
at Kingstree.
Mr W h McLlveen ana uaugnier,
Mi3s Jessie, were visitors in Kingstree
Monday.
i
Mr Clarence Truluck of Olanta
was a pleasant visitor at the home
of Mr W H McElveen Sunday.
A pleasant "sociable" was given
at the home of Mr and Mrs R C Mc*
Elveen Friday night. There was a
large attendance and everybody
seemed to have a good time.
Wedding bells are waiting to be
rung and we think the ringing will
not be long deferred. Three or four
weddings are to take place in our
community this winter, Dame Rumor
avers.
Mrs L A McElveen is visiting at
the home of her son, Mr W H Mc
Mr M L McClam of Mouzons visited
his friend. Mr Arthur Cooper,
Saturday.
Miss Mary Burgess visited her sister,Mrs
J V Burgess, here last week.
School will begin the first Monday
in November. The school will be
taught by Miss Hessie Graham of
Scranton.
Rosebud.
Death of a Child.
Died?Monday.September 30,1912,
little Jack, the four year old son of
Mr and Mrs A J Haselden of Rome.
The little one passed away after a
3hort illness; he was thought to be
better, when suddenly he became
worse and died immediately afterwards.
Jack was a bright, clever little fel
low, beloved by all who knew him.
The bereaved parents and relatives
have the deepest sympathy of the
whole community.
Saves Leg of Boy.
"It seemed that mv 14-year-old
boy would have to lose his leg, on
account of an ugly ulcer, caused by
a bad bruise," wrote D F Howard,
Aquone, N C. "All remedies and
doctors' treatment failed till we used

The "Bull Moose" Some Basso.
The best description we have heard
of Roosevelt was in the form of a
little story. It goes as follows:
Roosevelt was in heaven and he
started to organize a choir. He sent
out for a million tenors, a million
altos and a million sopranos. Some
one asked him why he did not send
for a million bosses and he replied:
"I'm going to sing bass myself."?
