J C HOLLY ACQUITTED.
Freed of Murder marge Aiier
Being Sentenced to Death.
Wilmington, N C, September 27:?
After having once been convicted
and sentenced to be electrocuted, J
C Holly, a well known white man of
this section, was acquitted by a jury
in Pender county of murder. It was
charged thatjHolly poisoned a young
man, Edward Cromwell, and then
set fire tojhis own hotel in this city
to cremate the body and hide all evidence
of his crime. He was tried
and convicted, but a new trial was
granted. The second trial ended in
a mistrial, and the State, fearing it
^ * could not get a fair trial here, had
the case removed to Pender county,
(where thejdefense secured a verdict
of not guilty. Holly is still charged
with arson, a capital crime in North
Carolina, and was remanded to jail
without bail, the court ordering him
placed on trial here in December.
Holly was at one time a Holiness
preacher.
New Stamps for Parcels Post.

parcels post. Under the law recentS
