Surgeon Powell became aware

Frost and had him recommended for
iromotion. He was appointed assistant
surgeon in 1861 and a year
ater was made surgeon. He passed
:hrough all of the battles around
Richmond and later in the campaigns
n Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
