IMMENSE GROVVO
HEARS GRACE,
SPEAKER TOLD HOW GOVERNOH
HAS FAILED IN DUTY' TIME TO
RISE FOR INDEPENDENCE.
Gaffney. A up 3. ?With the S K <
sipn exhibited at the court house
this afternoon Mayor John I' Grace
of Charleston spoke to a tremendou:
crowd of Cherokee voters. The
mayor was met at tl>e station by $
reception committee and a bras;
ban-J and escorted directly to the
court house. VJ H DeCamp presided
over the meeting and in a short
and happy speech introduced the
speaker. When the speaker arose
he was preeted by an ovation. For
several minutes the house echoed
with the cheers of the thronp.
Mr Grace's speech was far from
violent. It was an oratorical effort
to be proud of and althuuph he paid
his respects to the povernor in nc
uncertain terms there was not one
sentence in the entire address which

The speaker said that it was time
for the people of S"Uth Carolina tc
rise up and assert their right to be
free from one man rule and if any
people in the State should have thai
right, certainly the people of Cowpens
section were these people, because
they had made independence
possible and they had a right t<
claim what is theirs.
Said Mr Grace: "There is no on*,
man who is good enough to unlock
the prison doors of South Carolina
and turn out criminals who pollute
the air which they breathe."
The speaker said that the governor
was a man whojiad tolerated the
dirtiest graft that South Carolina or
any other State had ever been inflicted
with. "Your governor,"
said Mr Grace, "is not an honest
man. he is not a truthful man. he is
not a right living man. God save
the State from such men."
The speaker said that he supported
Cole Blease two years ago because
he believed that Blease stood
for what the people wanted. "Cole
Blease has not made good. If there
was ever a man bound body and soul

Blease," said Mayor Grace.
"Graft in South Carolina is doomed,"
said the speaker. "The day
when robbery is permitted is past
and South Carolina will assert her
independence and throw overtht
rule of the despot."
Speaking of the John Black case,
Mr Grace said in pardoning J"hn
Black the governor himself had become
a partner of Black in crime.
In the sight of Cole Blease, Mr Grace

The Roads lo Hemingway.
' Dear Mr Editor:
^ I
It will he remembered by some
readers of your pajvr that about
five years ago there appeared in The
Record an article from this section
entitled "a piece of bad road." The
, writer of that article is induced to
write again about the roads; but
this time in an entirely different
I manner.
The chaingang has recently been
working or. all of the roads that
' lead to Rome, and they have left
| them in excellent condition. We
now can boast of a respectable highwav
from Rome to Kingstree, also
from Rome to Florence county, via

Deafness Cannot Be lured
I by local applications, as they cannot reach the
i diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way
| to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional
i remedies. Deafness is caused by en inflamed condition
of the mucous lining of the Eustachian

i rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when
it is entirely closed, deafnese is the result, and
I unless the inflammation can be taken out and

will be destroyed forever: nine cases out of
ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but
an inflamed cond ition of the mucous surfaces.
