Charleston is a dear old place to me; ~
there is where I had my first ups
and downs. I played in the sand in
the street",had my fights, foot races,
swimming in the creeks around the 1
city, where I caught the sea crab,
which was ready for a fight as soon 3
as landed, and many, many a clinch
of their sharp claws ^iave I had on 1
one or the other of my toes. I often p
wandered far out into the salt marsh *
hunting marsh-hens' nests, some- *
times finding many eggs, also eating a
raccoon ovsters. Oh, that was long ^

ago! How delighted I would be 11
when I was allowed to go on these vI

Yes, I was in the old city three
days, and I strolled about noting the ^
changes that had taken place. Many
of the old buildings I remember so 3
! well are still standing,but those who *
lived there when I was a school boy
are all gone, long ago. I wandered e

through many streets but did not
recognize a single person that I used ^
to know?a different set altogether. 1

Chaloner Makes Bequests to Four
South Carolina Colleges.
Richmond, Va, July 14:?In order
:o forestall efforts of his relatives in
Mew York, who charge that he is
nsane, John Armstrong: Chaloner
las deeded his entire property,
tmounting to $1,500,000, to the Virfinia
Trust Company, in trust, to be
livided at his death between the
Jniversity of North Carolina and
he University of Virftfnia.
Specific bequests of $10,000 each
