Columbia, January ^9. (Special):? I Senator Epps, of Williamsburg county, has introduced in the Upper House of the General Assembly a bill j "to limit the number of dispensaries ! in counties where alcoholic liquors | are allowed by 'aw to be sold". The | bill has been passed to second read- ! ing and when it comes up for debate there promises to be a warm fight. The text of the bill is as follows: "That after the approval of this act there shall not be created or established, in any county where alcoholic liquors are allowed by law to be sold, more than one county dispensary: Provided, the provisions of this act shall not apply to those counties in which there are cities with a population exceeding fifteen thousand. "That all acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act be, and the same are hereby, repealed." The bill was favorably reported by the committee on Police Reflations. with an amendment to the effect that the "foregoing shall not affect dispensaries already established in any county". Senator Epps ha? also introduced a bill "to validate and declare legal an election held in the town of Kingstree, Williamsburg county, \ authorizing the issuing of twenty- j eight thousand dol'ars in bonds foi ' the purpose of constructing, establishing and maintaining a system of waterworks in the town of Kingstree and fourteen thousand dollars for the purpose of constructing, establishing and maintaining a system of sewerage in the said town of f Kingstree." k This bill was favorably reported M by the Senate Finance committee, R and, being a matter of local legis^ lation, will hardly fail of passage. Wyatt A Taylor. Death of Mr W Cooper Snowden. E>ied?Wednesday morning,January 24, at his home near Indiantown church, Mr W Cooper Snowden. MrSnowden was aboutfi8 years of age -y and apparently enjoyed fairly good ' health, The day before he died he went about attending to his duties as usual and his sudden taking off was a great shock to his family and k friends. Some time during the night he complained of being troubled with indigestion, but did not 1 appear to be very ill. A short while afterward his wife found that he had quiet y passed away. Mr Sncwden was a Confederate veteran, having served faithfully throughout the war. He is survived by his wife and several children, besides two brothers and two sisters. i These wit i a large circle of friends are berea/ed by his death. Governor Blease has granted a parole to Mary Givens.who was convicted in Charleston in March, 1911, of housebreaking and larceny and sentenced a term of one year. A pardon has been granted to H D Ferrell.who was convicted in Williamsburg county in February of last year on the charge of obtaining property under false pretenses and sentenced to pay a fine of $20. The Governor several weeks ago announced that no pardons and paroles would be granted during the session of the General Assembly.
